Isis, Hathor, and the Egyptian Mysteries
The mythology of Isis and Hathor is a tale of both great love and great loss, and of dance and pleasure mixed in with the dark realities of life. Sometimes Isis and Hathor are considered to be the same Egyptian female deity. That's because the worshipers of Isis borrowed, assimilated, and adapted Hathor's attributes to the extent it is often difficult to distinguish the two goddesses from one another. While both embodied motherhood and family ties, the two goddesses are not the same. Hathor is the more feminine deity of pleasure, dance and the arts, while the mythology of Isis is focused on love, loyalty, death, resurrection, and transformation.

Hathor is the personification of the principles of love, joy and motherhood. As one of the most popular deities in ancient Egypt, she was honored by royalty and commoners alike. More daughters were named after Hathor than any other goddess. In other roles she welcomed the dead into the afterlife, and was the goddess of music, dance, fertility, and aided women in childbirth.

Isis, in Egyptian mythology, is celebrated as the Great Mother.  She is also the loyal and devoted wife who brings about the resurrection of her beloved brother/husband, Osiris. Thus she is revered as the queen of the underworld and the goddess of transformation.  Her attributes are many and varied. She possesses the powers of a water goddess, an earth goddess, and a star goddess. She is the patron of nature, magic and divination. She is considered to be a friend of slaves, sinners, artisans, and the downtrodden. She hears the prayers of all; none are forgotten or overlooked.
