Conservation Projects at Dodona Manor
wallpaper house
In July, Dodona Manor continued progress on our several conservation projects. In collaboration with historic wallpaper specialist Jim Yates, we finished re-adhering Marshall's original "wine bottle" wallpaper to the breakfast and living room walls. In the photo above, the left side is the original wallpaper and the right side is the modern replication. Did you know that the breakfast room has two other visible wallpapers under Marshall's? Take a tour of Dodona Manor to learn more.

Another project we accomplished was to repair the gated entrance to Dodona Manor on Edwards Ferry Rd NE. This project included two yellowed brick columns that serve as the gate into Dodona Manor, leading into Marshall's garden. Over time, the mortar degraded due to weather conditions. Below are some photos of the new conservation.

George C. Marshall's Youth: A Three-Part Miniseries
We are proud to announce our new video program spotlighting the formative years of Gen. Marshall’s youth. The three-part series recounts Marshall’s early years in his birthplace of Uniontown, PA. His boyhood and adolescence are filled with childhood mischief, odd jobs and hobbies, as well as words of both encouragement and discouragement. By
revisiting Marshall’s youth, we catch a glimpse of the boy he once was, the obstacles he faced, and the lessons he learned from navigating them. This character development formed the foundation of the man and leader he would become.

Marshall historian Rachel Yarnell Thompson narrates all episodes. The first and
second episode recounts his early childhood in Uniontown, and the third examines his years as a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute.

On Wednesday, September 2 at noon, attend our book club and discuss former Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates' latest work, Exercise of Power: American Failures, Successes, and a New Path Forward in the Post-Cold War World, an examination of power in all its manifestations, and how it has been exercised, wisely and unwisely, by American presidents in the post-Cold War world.

July 4th at Dodona Manor

How did you celebrate this past 4th of July? On the grounds of Dodona Manor, the George C. Marshall International Center took some time to appreciate American art to celebrate the country’s independence. The Marshall Center presented Norman Rockwell’s Four Freedoms paintings ― based on a historic January 1941 speech by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

President Emeritus Tom Greenspon hosted this presentation, with lessons that resonate for our nation today. In case you missed it, we published a video on YouTube channel, which you can access by clicking here. Happy belated Independence Day, America!
It is through your continued support that we are able to inspire leadership.
