Tom Wood Subaru saves $200 every week or two by recycling oil filters. Previously, the retailer paid for used oil filter disposal.

“We found that if you punch a hole in the filters and let them drain for 24 hours, they can be crushed and included with our scrap metal for recycling,” said Shannon Cook, operations support specialist and sustainability manager at Tom Wood Subaru.

According to the Steel Recycling Institute, approximately 160,000 tons of steel could be recovered by “recycling all the filters sold annually in the United States.”
