Do You Have an Immigration Problem, A Citizenship Question? Together, We'll Find A Solution
BREAKING IMMIGRATION NEWS
10/9/2020 Issue
Statue of Liberty on Island in New York with flag of the United States of America
CITIZENSHIP APPLICATIONS – YOU CAN STILL USE OLD FEES!
You can still file citizenship applications using old forms and paying the old government fees thanks to a successful district court case. The Federal Judge decided on September 29, 2020 to temporarily block the implementation of the new fee schedule and the use of the new forms.
What does this mean? The increased fees cannot be charged now and USCIS will continue to accept applications on the old forms and with the old fees until a further ruling is made. It is unknown until when the injunction will remain in effect and how long the changes will remain blocked. But meanwhile – run and file if you thought you missed the deadline for filing with the old fees.
VISA NUMBERS FOR
 OCTOBER 2020
On account of the government policy to slow down immigration by imposing more difficulties, the visa bulletin for October 2020 reflects the rapid movement of different employment-based immigrant visa categories. It means that needed employees with approved Labor Certifications from countries like the Philippines and Mexico can get immigrant visas, or Green Cards, without waiting years before a “visa number” is available. If you, or your friends, have special or unique skills, apply for a Labor Certification now.
WHERE IS MY APPLICATION FOR U.S. CITIZENSHIP THAT I FILED FOR LAST YEAR?
Relax. It is not lost. It is in the pile.
Our office is getting phone calls and emails from anxious people who applied for NATURALIZATION a year ago and are still waiting for their interviews.
We tell them to relax, there is nothing to do – because it was recently published that the USCIS has a backlog of 300,000 applications for naturalization waiting for their turn. You are just one of the crowd.
We realize that this is very weak comfort to the anxious applicant. But, as our President Trump says, “This is What It Is”.
VOTING IN THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS? BE CAREFUL – IT COULD BE DANGEROUS
IF YOU ARE NOT AN AMERICAN CITIZEN – DO NOT VOTE.
If you believe that you are an American citizen - because that was what your parents told you, or because the DMV REGISTERED you to vote, or because you have a Green Card for many years – but you do not have a valid U.S. passport in your hands, or a Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship – DO NOT VOTE.
If you vote when you are not entitled to vote – you are committing a crime that (practically) has no forgiveness.
LOTTERY AGAIN- CHECK IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE
55,000 Diversity visas, also known as lottery Green Cards, will be available again for 2022.
Registration begins October 7, 2020 and will continue until midnight November 20, 2020.
NEW AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT REQUIREMENTS
The Government wants to make sure that any person providing an Affidavit of Support for a prospective immigrant, is actually well-qualified financially to provide support to the prospective immigrant.
The plan is that providers of Affidavits of Support would be required to submit certified copies of their Income Tax Returns for the past 3 years, credit reports and credit scores and bank account information – all to convincingly prove that they are able to maintain the required income through all the years that they promise to support the prospective immigrant.
