Demo Day!

  

          

 

 

 

On December 6th 2012, from 4:30 - 7:00 PM Northern Kentucky's premier Business Accelerator program  UpTech, will hold a Demo Day where 8 new informatics-based start-up companies will pitch their business models to regional business leaders and investors.

 

The event will be held at the Digitorium in Griffin Hall at Northern Kentucky Universities, College of Informatics.

 

The 8 start-up companies represent the first graduating class of the six-month UpTech Business Accelerator program. Under the program, the start-ups are provided with up to $100,000 in equity investment, business mentorship, free office space and applied informatics research support from NKU's College of Informatics. There are up to 200 business accelerators in the country; UpTech is the first and so far only Informatics-based business accelerator.

 

Since the UpTech accelerator program was announced on January 17th, 2012 the UpTech program and the UpTech start-ups:

 

  • Raised and invested over $1,000,000.
  • Raised over $1,000,000 in sponsorships, in-kind donations and business support.
  • Received $90,000 in grants for 3 start-up companies.
  • Created 19 new jobs
  • Generated over $300,000 in revenue
  • Made over 150 Investor pitches
  • Been Mentioned in over 75 media articles
  • Generated and received thousands of web-hits, tweets, re-tweets, likes and links.

 

The program will consist of networking before and after the event, a special speaker to introduce the program, the 8 investment pitches, special awards and refreshments.

 

The UpTech Class of 2012:

 

CitiLogics, a developer of real-time data fusion software that helps water utilities lower energy costs, reduce water leakage, improve service reliability and enhance the quality of tap water.

 

CrowdSpark, is an online contest platform that allows anyone to design and launch an online contest site.

 

Gamigen, a software developer offering 3D simulation products geared towards the health, oil and gas, mining, academic, manufacturing and public safety industries. The company specializes in the "gamification" of business and training software.

 

InstrumentLife, an Internet-based business application with a social media interface that connects musical instruments with owners, retailers, repair shops and schools.

 

MakeupHaulic, a website dedicated to aggregating beauty-related vlogs into a searchable interface.

 

OneMorePallet, a website that provides small shippers the ability to purchase excess capacity from Less-Than-a-Truckload carriers at a significant discount.

 

StudentSource, an online tool that allows businesses and universities to connect through a

marketplace where businesses outsource projects for university professors to review and assign to their students as class assignments.

 

Text and the City, a mobile marketing company that combines text messaging, a conventional

website and mobile website to connect users on a hyper-local basis.
