VAST sponsors this annual event to offer its members an important opportunity to enter their work in a juried exhibition that showcases members only. The exhibit provides an excellent venue for the North Texas community to appreciate the high quality and diverse nature of art produced by area artists.

July 9 - acceptance of entries,

July 11 - pick up unaccepted work,

4 - 7pm
July 19 - Opening Reception 6 - 8pm; Awards Presentation 7pm

VADO = VAST Artist Day Out
Invitation to go to VADO, Free!
The members of VADO invite VAST members to be their guests at the meetings this summer and for September and October this fall. Just bring something to work on and plan to enjoy the time with other artists - or drop by and visit, and go with us to eat!
VADO is held the first and third Thursday of each month except November and December. This group is a great opportunity to get to know other members and enjoy the fellowship of other artists. It is an opportunity to get feedback for something you may be working on!
The first Thursday meetings are held in the Beulah Acres Building at Global Spheres in Corinth from 9:30am to 12:30pm (August 1st, September 5th, and October 3rd.)
The third Thursday meetings are held in the PAAC craft room from 9:30am
to 12:30pm (July 18, Aug 15th, September 19th, and October 17th.)
So mark your calendars! Get feedback and enjoy good conversation with fellow artists!

Join members of VAST and the Denton Poets' Assembly to celebrate the Merging Visions exhibition through 3 workshops that unite visual and literary artistic expression.
July 11: Creative Recycling: Torn Paper Collage
This hands-on workshop will begin by tearing things apart and end by putting them back together in new configurations. Participants will take home a frameable work of recycled watercolor art and a new poem created in a fun, fast, easy evening of paper, glue and play.
Activities led by Nel byrd Dorn, Christine Irving and Becca Hines.
August 8: Representing Words with Marks, Found Poetry, and Concrete Poetry
Experience language in new ways. In this workshop, you will have the chance to interpret, redefine, and reform words through three different activities that will have you playing with gestural mark making, word searches, and linguistic arrangements.
Activities led by Gail Williamson Cope, Beth Honeycutt and Richard Schinzel.

Play Hard or Go Home

Play Hard or Go Home is a large-scale
interactive self-portrait
installation of over 1,600 books and family memories by Los Angeles based artist Chrystal McConnell. McConnell created the work to help her better understand her own life experiences and what she calls a "daunting childhood" that "held unresolved issues" for her.
McConnell uses found objects, discarded and abandoned materials from antique stores, thrift stores, used book sales, and library sales. These once discarded objects reflect her own historical foundation of abandonment and unresolved issues.

They are held on the first Wednesday of the month, Sept. through May.

"Hot Child In the City; August Abstracted"
Embrace the summer heat and show us your abstract offspring. Reflect on your feelings, frame of mind and emotions during the hottest month of the year. No boundaries are set, nothing is right or wrong; this is the artists' exhibit-express yourself. With one caveat... a brief statement must accompany each submission and will be displayed with the accepted art...the only boundary for this is that it must be a minimum of one word and cannot exceed one paragraph.

The Lone Star Nature Art Competition is back!
Presented by Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park, Dallas, this competition and exhibition
features
the work of artists from across the great state of Texas.
Online submissions deadline: July 31.
Exhibition Dates: September 27 - October 20
Judges representing and picked by Texas Discovery Gardens, including Discovery Gallery Curator Brenda McKinney, will choose winners and runner-ups. 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and Honorable Mention ribbons will be awarded to the top entries. Best of Show will receive a $500 Grand Prize.
