Hello Rising 5th Grade Parents and Guardians!

We are so excited that your student is going to be promoted to Midyouth in the coming months! As of May 21, your child will be considered a 5th grader at Pulaski Heights UMC youth ministry—and that is the day that all the fun starts! You are invited to the "5th Grade Preview Night" for incoming 5th graders AND their parents, May 21st, 5:00-6:45pm!

This will be a fun night to experience Midyouth and get a feel for what Wednesday nights will be like and who will be there. Here's the scoop:

5:00-5:30: Play time in the gym and dinner begins.

5:30-5:45: Parent meeting while Midyouth are finishing dinner

5:45-6:05: Parent versus Midyouth mini-kickball game

6:05-6:20: Worship together in the chapel

6:20-6:40: Midyouth and Midyouth parent small group

Beginning June 1st, your student is invited to join us in the youth room during the Sunday School hour, and throughout the summer there will be opportunities for them to be involved with youth programming (you can see more about those below!).

For those I have not met yet, my name is Ellen Rowland, and I am Pastor to Youth and Families. I am so excited to be able to get to know you and your youth throughout the next seven years. We restructured our staff this past year, and we are delighted at the ways our programs have become more cohesive and well supported. I, Ellen, write, lead, and teach both midyouth (5th-7th) and phyouth (8th-12th) with the help of Heather Doherty, who is the Administrative Assistant to Youth and Families. Heather is the mastermind behind all of our delicious meals, the details of all of our fun trips and service projects, and the one to help you with anything registration-related. Should you need anything or have any questions, we are always here and happy to help!

We have an exciting summer of activities led by staff and volunteers. There are a number of opportunities for your 5th grader to participate in, we hope you'll join us! Check out the Summer Calendar below and pay special attention to the midyouth activities. You can also sign up to receive text message updates from us to remind you about midyouth events.

We look forward to our time together!

Sunday school for the summer is very relaxed due to the come and go nature of our families during the summer.

  • Sunday school will be a no-phone-zone in the youth room!

  • Adults will share a devotional (Provided by youth staff)

  • Students 5th-7th who attend will have time to relax, play with the games in the youth room, and get to know each other after the devotional.

We need parents willing to be present, and read the devotional in Sunday school!
