A Letter from the Director...

Join the celebration! Libraries = Strong Communities! This month MLNV celebrates National Library Week, April 8th - 13th. National Library Week is an annual celebration that highlights the valuable roles that libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. Many times a community library carries a reputation for being a repository of dusty books and broken microfiche machines. Immediately, I think of the recent release of Mary Poppins staring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda as they try to remind us to look past "reputations" in the musical number, A Cover is Not the Book. The song goes, "...a cover is not the book, So open it up and take a look... Chapter titles are like signs, And if you read between the lines, You'll find your first impression was mistook..."

The fact of the matter is that YOUR library is at the heart of OUR community, providing critical resources, programs and expertise. I invite you to stop by the library between April 8th - 13th to take a look...read between the lines....and your impression of the library will change if you check out an e-book, learn to cook, or get comfy in a nook.

Cheers to our community for working together to build a stronger community, one library visit at a time!

Spotlight
The Children's Department

This month we are spotlighting the Children's Department; and starting with our May newsletter, you can read all the latest news in their Kid's Corner section of the  newsletter!

Led by Assistant Director and Head of Children's Services, Catherine Stewart, the Children's Department is comprised of six staff members (shown below, left to right): Catherine, Shelby Rozell, Carol Brill, Ann Louise Taylor, Dawn Corwin, and
Jo Ann Kelly.
Exciting changes are coming to the Children's Department this spring. Library Assistant, Dawn Corwin, spearheaded restructuring our Easy paperbacks and Easy Readers into groups by subject (e.g., Disney, Superheroes, Movie or Television characters). This is making it easier for our younger patrons to find the books they love. Also the children's staff are preparing Book Bundles for circulation. Book Bundles are comprised of 3 & 5 books of the same genre or topic bundled as a package to check out. Some examples are graphic novels, dinosaurs, chapter books, and trucks. Look for the Book Bundles beginning April 1st.

Summer reading is approaching fast and the staff is working very hard to bring quality programming during the summer months. This year's summer reading theme is "A Universe of Stories." Check our online calendar for upcoming events.
