Cornfield Dance: Free Pop-Up Performance at Millbrook Meadow

This is a FREE community performance! Windhover presents Cornfield Dance at Millbrook Meadow, a site-responsive dance performance in four-acre Millbrook Meadow, a park in downtown Rockport on Beach Street across from Front Beach. Six dancers from New York-based Cornfield Dance will perform material from Spaced Out, a lively and athletic dance incorporating six red folding chairs and exploring social distancing, and Small Stages, a series of dances confined to spaces no larger than a six-foot square. This week’s highlighted cultural organization in Harbortown is Maritime Gloucester! Located at 23 Harbor Loop, Maritime Gloucester is open until 7:00pm each Thursday. They are right next door to the Harbormaster dock where you can catch the water shuttle to travel between Harbortown and Rocky Neck. Visit the museum for an immersive learning experience focused on maritime history and Gloucester’s marine life. For Culture Splash,Maritime Gloucester will also be hosting Leslie Davison of Mosaic Gloucester for a mosaics demonstration!

This week’s highlighted cultural organization in Rocky Neck is Ocean Alliance! Join them Thursday, August 18 for a Cape Ann Makers Market featuring works from over 20 local artists and makers.
This Thursday Ocean Alliance will also have on display “Once Upon a Whale Song,” which is an immersive art and sound installation by Northwest artist Perri Lynch Howard that reimagines the world’s oceans, not as the watery backdrop of our human lives, but as precious habitat for whales, in the medium through which they communicate— sound. This exhibition invites you to become a great listener.

Candlelight & Spiritualism Tours

Candlelight Tours run at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. Spiritualism Tours begin at 9pm.
Candlelight Tours: Guides will escort visitors through the museum's many rooms, placing an emphasis on the Hammonds themselves and the time that they spent in their castle home. Visit and immerse yourself in the lost era of quiet luxury and candlelight.
Spiritualism Tours: Delve into the history of the American Spiritualism Movement and the culture that formed around it, as well as the contributions of both Hammonds. Guides will discuss cultural phenomena such as spirit photography and séances as well as the more scientific aspects of the movement such as Hammond’s research in ESP.

Shea’s has been selected to receive a Biz-M-Power grant through the State of Massachusetts. This grant provides a dollar-to-dollar match of funds that they raise before Labor Day. They are hoping to raise enough funds to build a greenhouse at Shea’s so that they can offer more farm-to-table specials. There will be appetizers, a pasta and salad station, cash bar, raffle items and live music from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. A $25.00 cover donation will go straight to their fundraising campaign. In it's 12th year, the Luminaries & Love display is designed to be a healing night of remembrance and support.
