Upcoming Changes to Dock Street Traffic Patterns
The work at City Dock is underway, bringing us one step closer to a more flood-resistant historic waterfront in downtown Annapolis.
Beginning Jan. 19, some on-street parking along Dock Street will be removed and the construction fencing will be extended to an area that includes much of upper Dock Street (between Randall and Craig Streets), see map below. This fencing is required to safely support the project, including construction vehicle access and dewatering tanks. The closure, while not ideal, is essential to keep the project moving forward and on schedule.
We recognize that this will be a significant and visible change to Dock Street, including the loss of waterfront views and nearby parking. We also understand that these changes affect businesses, residents, and visitors to City Dock.
Dock Street Businesses Remain OPEN!
We want to be clear about what to expect in terms of access. While some parking will be removed, replacement parking is available at Mills Hillman Garage, which was expanded in 2023 to include an additional 165 parking spaces (590 spaces total). The garage is a short walk to Dock Street and includes EV charging stations, public restrooms, and accessible parking. Please continue to visit and support businesses on Dock Street.
To help customers find Dock Street businesses, the City will be installing wayfinding to direct visitors to parking. Please look for new signage in downtown directing drivers and pedestrians to and from Mills Hillman Garage and Dock Street on or before January 19.
We recognize the disruption that significant construction projects can cause. But we also know that long-term flood protection is critical to the economic vitality of historic downtown. At its completion, the City Dock project will deliver not only resilience, but a world-class public waterfront space for residents and visitors to enjoy for generations to come.
We thank you for your continued patience as our work moves ahead!
