Guided by Faith: Stories of Survival
Thursday, May 30, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Glenview Public Library
Community Room
1930 Glenview Rd, Glenview, IL

On Magda’s 17th birthday she was crowded onto a railroad box car and traveled days without food, water, or the knowledge that her final destination was the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp  in Poland. Although it is painful to remember her horrendous experiences, Magda believes her story and others like hers have to be told. Magda will share her story alongside Rwandan Genocide Survivor, Claire Mukundente.

A t age 15, Claire Mukundente fled the Rwandan Genocide, where more than 800,000 Rwandans lost their lives in the span of 100 days. For the next six years, Claire lived in refugee camps before being resettled to Chicago. A devout Christian, Claire was guided by her faith and desire to never hate "the other."

Join Claire and Magda as they share their stories and highlight the role religion played in their lives during the genocides and the years that followed.

S ummer Program Volunteer Opportunities

Our teenage participants work very hard in daily dialogue, team-building, and leadership development activities. They build up a big appetite and we need your help! You can help keep them going by donating snacks, gift cards, beverages or underwriting meals during the Summer Program. For more volunteer opportunities or to donate in kind, contact Chicago Site Director, Darling Kittoe .
Interesting Events in the Community
The views of speakers/films/books do not represent the view of Hands of Peace. Just like our young leaders, we encourage the Hands of Peace community to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. To best do that, we list a wide spectrum of events and encourage people to attend some that offer differing perspectives. Only by listening to each other with open minds and open hearts can we grow.
