Project Overview
The Citywide Smart Lighting Improvements project will deliver consistent and reliable lighting that supports pedestrian safety, improves nighttime visibility and reduces light spillover into private properties. New LED lights will be installed with correlated color temperatures (CCT) of 3000 and 4000K used, depending on the area and public input received. Lighting fixtures will include shields to minimize glare and unwanted illumination into homes.
This work is part of a long-term citywide effort to modernize street lighting infrastructure using data-driven analysis and design. The $3.5 million construction budget for the lighting upgrades are funded through the voter-approved G.O. Bond program.
What’s Happening
The City of Miami Beach will begin construction on the Citywide Smart Lighting Improvements project. As part of the G.O. Bond Program, the lighting improvements in the neighborhoods listed focus on upgrading street lighting infrastructure in targeted areas with outdated or deficient lighting. The work includes the installation of new LED luminaires and underground electrical improvements to enhance public safety and nighttime visibility across the city.
Work includes two key components:
- Directional boring and trench excavation to support lighting system infrastructure (electrical wiring) in specific areas
- Replacement of outdated lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LED models
Timeline
Construction will begin Thursday, July 24 and will continue block by block over the coming weeks. All work will occur weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
