Editorial Warns Premature Passage of TIF

The Chicago Tribune cautions a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District needs "thorough vetting," especially in light of its failure to include funding for new open space and schools. The editorial slams the city's open space vision as "scattered patches ...including green rooftops, bike paths, riverfront setbacks and tot lots." The Lincoln Yards presentation is an opportunity for community input on transportation infrastructure, parkland and getting residents ensure the community sees and vets the entire plan for this area.

Congressman Quigley Calls on Postmaster General to Improve Service

Our office and Congressman Quigley's office have both received numerous calls from constituents about the United States Postal Service (USPS). These concerns from constituents particularly focused on USPS delivering mail to incorrect addresses, arriving damaged, or not arriving for days at a time.

Congressman Quigley sent the Postmaster General a follow-up letter demanding immediate answers regarding the causes of delivery issues and additional information on the steps the USPS will take to prevent these problems going forward.

The Congressman's Office has published a survey to learn more about your experiences with mail delivery and ways USPS can improve the situation. To share this survey with your friends or family, please see the Congressman's Facebook page here .

Trash and Recycling Changes for Thanksgiving Week

All city-collected refuse will be serviced Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure all black refuse carts are accessible throughout the week of collection, not solely on your regular day of collection.

The Department of Streets and Sanitation will collect recycling on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  Residents should ensure all Blue Recycling Carts are accessible throughout the week of collection.
Recycle Guide

We all support recycling, but occasionally, by putting the wrong things in our blue cart, an entire cart can be contaminated - and not recycled. We'll be running a few tips to help out.

  • NO Pizza boxes - the grease contaminates the paper fibers and the separators can't distinguish between boxes. Throw them out, or champion recyclers tear off the parts that are contaminated and recycle the rest.
  • NO plastic bags - the bags tear up the recycling equipment. Better to carry your bag to the blue cart, drop the items, emptying the bag (and reuse it!)

Bagged Leaf & Yard Waste Pickup

As a reminder, please do not sweep leaves into the street or along the curb. Leaves and yard waste must be bagged separately. Call 311 to reserve a pick up.

Construction Updates
Fullerton/Geneva Terrace Water Main Work:
Water service connections for this project are being made. Once connected, please flush your entire home/building from exterior spigots, to the basement and up to the higher floors sequentially. Contact 311 immediately should the service 'sputter' or have very low pressure.

700 block of W Schubert & 2700 N Orchard block:
CDOT in-house construction will be performing curb and gutter replacement and ADA installation. Please be cautious when driving in this area as the streets are very heavily used during school drop off and pick up.

Telecommunications:
Restoration is impacting Wrightwood and Halsted as well as Wrightwood and Orchard. 2500 N Orchard work will be limited to the eastern sidewalk and be restored 'concrete to grade' before Thanksgiving.
Upcoming Events
ZooLights
November 23rd - January 6th

Now in it's annual 24th year, ZooLights Presented by ComEd and Invesco QQQ returns to Lincoln Park Zoo. Featuring luminous displays, fun seasonal activities, and even a few special ticketed events, all under the glow of 2.5 million twinkling lights.

PARKING AND OTHER TRANSIT OPTIONS:
For the easiest parking experience, visit on a weeknight. On warm weekend evenings, especially Saturdays, the lot fills up. On these warmer climate nights, we strongly recommend public transit, rideshare apps, or Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co.’s Holiday Lights Tour, the official trolley of ZooLights, which makes two convenient stops at the zoo.
