2024 Converse Emerging Young Artists Juried Exhibition & Reception

March 11-24 - FREE
The Converse Emerging Young Artists Exhibition provides a venue to recognize exemplary artworks of high school students, to help them begin to prepare for a major in art while still in grades 9-12. This opportunity also introduces them to the Converse University Department of Art, Design & Letters, and the variety of programs offered.

The Reception and Award Ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Award winners announced at 2:00pm.

Converse Visiting Writer: Lisa Hase-Jackson

Join us for a reading by Lisa Hase-Jackson. Hase-Jackson is the winner of the Converse MFA Alumni Book Prize for her book Insomnia in Another Town, published by Clemson University Press as part of the Clemson-Converse Literature Series. Lisa is the author of the poetry collections Flint & Fire, recipient of the Hillary Tham Poetry Prize, and Insomnia in Another Town.
The reading is free and open to the public. Hosted by the BFA in Creative and Professional Writing.
This event will be held in Room 201 in the Milliken Fine Arts Building.

The Petrie School of Music presents the Converse Wind Ensemble: It’s Not Always May: Compositions of the 21st Century. This concert will feature guest artists Alyss Haecker, soprano and Dr. James Patrick Miller, conductor. Music featured in this concert include works by Steven Bryant, Michael Markowski, Jayce Ogren, Jose Ignacio Blesa Lull, and Converse’s own Sean Giovannetti. This concert is free to attend and is open to the public.

Moseley Next: Empire Wild

Empire Wild is a genre-bending, crossover trio featuring classically-trained musicians as a vehicle for their shared love of musical exploration – fusing the sounds of pop, folk, Broadway and more into their songwriting and composition. Empire Wild was selected as an Ambassador Prize winner in the 2020 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition. The group’s debut EP Paper Seasons features all original songs, highlighting the Trio’s unique sound and instrumentation. Based in NYC, Empire Wild has brought its signature mix of original music, inventive covers, and twists on the classical canon to audiences across the country.
