Exhibition: Future Nature/Content Aware

Future Nature / Content Aware will feature the latest work from photographer Aspen Hochhalter in the Milliken Art Gallery. Converse Symphony Orchestra: Danzón

The Petrie School of Music presents “Danzón,” a concert by the Converse Symphony Orchestra featuring the 2022 concerto competition winners Madeline Owens, soprano, Sydney Stevens, oboe, and Liu Luxin, clarinet. Directed by Eric Scheider, the program features lively and colorful dance-inspired music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Florence Price, Arturo Márquez, and more. Pens & Pages: Holiday Themed Writing Workshop

November 10 at 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm- FREE
Offered by the Converse Low Residency MFA in Creative Writing and led by author and MFA program director Rick Mulkey, you will explore the roots of holiday memories, ponder the stories we tell ourselves about this time of year, and write your holiday experiences for the year ahead. These reflections can become creative fertile ground for memoirs, poetry, journaling, and more. The workshop is designed for writers of all experience levels.

The Spartanburg Master Chorale: Alzheimer's Stories

The Petrie School of Music and the Alzheimer’s Association of South Carolina present When Memory Fades, a concert for Alzheimer’s awareness by the Spartanburg Master Chorale. Featuring the moving oratorio Alzheimer’s Stories by Robert Cohen, this work grapples with this devastating disease while offering hope, love, and music to those who suffer from Alzheimer’s, those whose loved-ones struggle with it, and the caregivers who provide kindness and dignity for their patients.
This concert is generously sponsored by Agape Care Group, Comfort Keepers, and White Oak Management. Thursday, November 17 at 7:30PM in Twichell Auditorium, this event is free and open to the public. Valet parking will be provided for those requiring assistance.

Carlos Moseley Series: Ying Quartet

The Ying Quartet occupies a position of unique prominence in the classical music world, combining brilliantly communicative performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today’s world. Now in its third decade, the Quartet has established itself as an ensemble of the highest musical qualifications. Their performances regularly take place in many of the world’s most important concert halls; at the same time, the Quartet’s belief that concert music can also be a meaningful part of everyday life has also drawn the foursome to perform in settings as diverse as the workplace, schools, juvenile prisons, and the White House.

2022 Festival of Lessons and Carols

The Spartanburg community is invited to join us on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. to enjoy the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols in Twichell Auditorium.
Festival of Lessons and Carols celebrates the Christmas season with traditional carols and hymns, along with student-led scripture readings. Spartanburg Master Chorale, Converse Wind Ensemble, and the Converse Chorale will perform these beloved, traditional songs between the readings. The audience will be invited to sing along in many segments of the service. The livestream will begin at the start of the event.
In addition to the two Christmas trees on the Twichell stage, luminaries will line the front campus for the evening’s glow. Funds collected from the sale of luminaries will be contributed to the Student Benevolence Fund. Luminary submissions received by Friday, November 11th will be recognized in the program.
Festival of Lessons and Carols is free and open to the public.
