Child Care Provider Appreciation Day on May 6th!
Child Care Provider Appreciation Day (led by Child Care Aware of America) is celebrated the Friday before Mother’s Day every year to recognize child care providers, teachers and other educators of young children everywhere.

Child care providers were essential long before the pandemic, and the past year has highlighted the lengths to which they are willing to go to keep their doors open to serve the children of other essential workers.

Help us celebrate and thank child care providers across the nation on May 6, 2022 for Child Care Provider Appreciation Day!
Universal PreKindergarten (UPK)
The Early Education Division (EED) hosts weekly Universal PreKindergarten (UPK) office hours. The EED will be hosting virtual office hours on Wednesday afternoons targeted for Local Education Agencies (school districts, charter schools, county offices of education) so that attendees can come and ask questions and receive technical assistance about UPK implementation. The first 15 minutes will be a quick review of UPK and the latest developments.

Registration for each week’s Office Hour opportunity will open the Friday afternoon before each Wednesday’s event. Registration will be limited to 500 participants per session and will be open to all regions of California. Please register ahead of time.

The EED has posted resources for UPK here, including information from the first two UPK webinars and first round of guidance to use in planning for UPK implementation.

Click here to register for the next UPK Office Hour on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, from 4–5 p.m.
First 5 SF and OECE (soon-to-be Department of Early Childhood) co-hosted webinars with the San Francisco Unified School District’s (SFUSD) Early Education Division to provide an overview of the Universal Pre-Kindergarten Plan.

Since then, they compiled answers to frequently asked questions they have been hearing from the community. You can find their new FAQ as well as the UPK Plan Overview webinar recording and powerpoint presentation linked below:

You can also find all of these resources on the OECE website page (scroll down to "Past Meeting Materials" section).

As UPK Planning develops, we will continue to collaborate and keep you informed.

Because of the expansion of preschool programs in public school districts, the majority of principals are now required to supervise early childhood teachers and classrooms. Unfortunately, information on child development and early childhood education is not a mandatory component of administrative training programs in most states nor is it a top priority for professional development for administrators working in public school districts. As a result, nationwide, principals are expressing their interest in learning more about early childhood education so they can become effective early learning leaders. This webinar is designed to address this gap.
