Thanksgiving Food Drive
Items needed by Tuesday, November 17
This Thanksgiving, please share your bounty with neighbors in need. Our Food Pantry is in need of non-perishable items suitable for a Thanksgiving meal by Tuesday, Nov. 17:
CANNED: Cranberry sauce • Corn • Green beans • Cream of mushroom soup • French fried onions • Gravy (cans, jars, or packets)
BOXED: Stuffing mix • Mashed potatoes • Cornbread mix
OTHER: Foil roasting pans • $25 Jewel or Meijer gift cards for perishable items

Since making aliyah in 2006, comedian Benji Lovitt has performed for audiences around the world including Hillels, Birthright Israel, and Jewish Federations. His perspectives on life in Israel have been featured on Israeli television and radio and in publications such as USA Today, Time Magazine, Huffington Post, the Times of Israel, and more. His annual Yom Ha’atzmaut list of things he loves about Israel has developed a huge following, and he works regularly with Jewish organizations to promote Israel.

Contest: Show Your Gratitude 2020!
​Entry Deadline: Tuesday, November 17, 2020
​November is a time for reflecting on our blessings. What are you grateful for? What does gratitude mean to you? In this contest, the Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana invites you to submit any kind of creative work on the theme of gratitude.

  • WHAT: Poems, paintings, sculptures, fiber arts, short essays or stories, Lego dioramas, food... anything! Prose entries should be no more than 1000 words.
  • WHO: Open to all Jewish residents of Northwest Indiana.
  • THREE AGE BRACKETS: Youth (ages 6-12), Teen (ages 13-18), Adult
  • Winners will be featured in Federation’s 2020 Annual Report.

Global Virtual Book Club: The Book of Fathers by Miklós Vámos

Partnership friends in the US, Budapest, and the Western Galilee will meet via Zoom with Hungarian author Miklós Vámos for a discussion of this month's selection, The Book of Fathers. A monumental family saga, this unique book illuminates 12 generations of one Hungarian family who are woven into the history of Hungary and its Jews.

Are you free on Monday or Wednesday afternoons? Would you like to get out of the house in a socially distanced manner while doing a mitzvah for vulnerable seniors? We need new volunteers for our LaPorte route, as well as for the Illinois South Suburbs and around west Lake County. To help us serve you better, please order by NOON ON FRIDAY for Monday deliveries and NOON ON TUESDAY for Wednesday deliveries. Orders received after that time will be fulfilled based on availability, first come first served.
ALL Monday/Wednesday meals are now distributed from the kitchen entrance on the east side (rear) of the building. When you enter the parking lot, take the first right and follow the driveway around to the left, to the 2nd set of double doors. No need to get out of your car. After 12:30pm, please call (219) 301-0960 to let us know you are here.

With the holidays behind us and the weather starting to get cold, weekly in-person Shabbat services have moved back indoors, with the following COVID-19 precautions: Please wash your hands immediately upon arrival, wear a facemask, and maintain 6-feet distance whenever possible. Kiddush will continue to be individual servings and socially distant.
