A Letter from the Director...
One of the most exciting things that can happen to you as a Library Director is to hear from patrons that the services and programs being offered at your library are making a difference in their lives. Over the summer, the library staff created a Teen Advisory Board. The group grew to nine teenagers in a two-week period of time. The teens have fun talking about books, planning programs for the library, and enjoying each other's company. Many times their meetings extend past the scheduled ending time. Recently, a parent of one of these teenagers thanked a member of the library staff for creating a place where her teen is comfortable and accepted. The parent went on to say that the Teen Advisory Board is a positive influence in her child's life. This message was a powerful one that affected all of us at the library. It was a sign that we are making a difference!

The library staff is hoping to impact other groups in the community as we have with teens. We are actively searching for home schooled families as we begin planning dedicated book discussions and STEAM activities for these students. The library staff is also investigating on-going programs for veterans and disabled adults.

The library staff will continue to insure the programming offered is inclusive and valued. I am excited to continue to develop programming for non-traditional library users and open the library doors to new and exciting opportunities. Jane Goodall once said, "What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."

If you are a home school family or would be interested in our other programming opportunities mentioned here, please contact Catherine Stewart, Assistant Director at [email protected].

Have a great September, see you at the library!

Spotlight
Leah Hopf, Library Page

Leah Hopf is one of the Library's three new Pages! Leah started working during the summer and is currently a junior at Nazareth Area High School.

In her spare time, Leah enjoys reading, baking, traveling, and binge-watching the Great British Baking Show! Her favorite books are the popular Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket. At school, she is involved in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and the Junior Executive Council.

Leah has been visiting the library for her entire life; aside from weekly story times, her favorite activities at the library were Reading to the Pups and Art with Gina. Her favorite thing about the library now is "the myriad of books (and other media) offered. If you're looking for something, the library is sure to have it, plus five extra things that you didn't know you needed, but definitely do." She also loves "the relaxed atmosphere - great for studying! - and all the friendly people."

Following high school, Leah plans to go to college to major in History and minor in Political Science.
