Hi Friend,

Since our last update, we've given out 6 scholarships to children of Memorial employees, pinned Guardian Angels and added new items to our online store! We also have some upcoming events that we hope you join us for!
BURDONNE YOUNG SCHOLARSHIPS
(L-R): Ella Mitchell, Emily Callender, Angelina Miller, Danielle McFadden, Delaney Price and Kaleb Holliman
Our 2021 Burdonne Young Scholarship recipients are as follows: Emily Callender, daughter of Andrea Kaufman, Radiology; Kaleb Holliman, son of Jennifer Howard, Distribution Supervisor at Stone County; Danielle McFadden, daughter of Andrea McFadden, HIM; Angelina Miller, daughter of Kenneth Miller, Engineering; Ella Mitchell, daughter of Elisha Allenbaugh, Cardiology – Dr. Michael Payment; Delaney Price, daughter of Crystal Bourdin, PCU.

These scholarships are awarded annually to six dependents of Memorial Hospital employees who will be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at a college or university in the fall. The scholarships are made possible by the estate of Ms. Emma Burdonne Young and Memorial employees who donate through SHINE, our employee giving campaign, to the Burdonne Young Scholarship Fund. Burdonne Young was affectionately known as “Ms. Memorial” and was a nurse for Memorial for over 50 years. Since 2001, 90 individuals have been awarded $57,000 in scholarships.
We've recognized several Memorial staff members as Guardian Angels over the past few months. Guardian Angels are any Memorial staff member that has been recognized by their patient or patient's family for the excellent care they received. Congratulations to Crystal Skrmetta, RN - Radiology (left); Emergency Services Director Christine Weiland and Emergency Services Manager Margaret Shore (top right); Madison Plauche, RN, Dr. David Kuhlmann, and Sherry Boyd, RN - NICU (bottom right).
Julie McDaniel, RN, BSN was Coordinator of Customer Relations at Memorial from 2003 until 2008, and was named Director of Customer Satisfaction from 2008 until her untimely passing in April, 2013. The Julie McDaniel Critical Illness Travel Fund provides travel expense support for Memorial Hospital patients referred outside of the Memorial network for critical specialized care. Examples of support include hotel, gas cards and food expenses. The fund was formerly known as the Julie McDaniel Service Excellence Fund and was recently refocused to better meet the needs of our patients.

We've added two new shirts to our online store! We now have light blue and dri-fit options. We've also added an umbrella for all these rainy days!
We manage 20 funds that provide financial support to Memorial Hospital, our patients, and our employees. What makes us unique is that Memorial Hospital generously covers our overhead costs so that 100% of donations to the Foundation go directly to the fund of your choosing. We have several donor programs for our supporters to choose from and you get to pick the fund you would like your donation to benefit.
