Franklin Lakes Local History Group
On June 20, 2019 the Franklin Lakes History Group hosted Jack Goudsward, Franklin Lakes resident who spoke about Reaction Motors that had a rocket testing site in Franklin Lakes from 1942-1944. When the rocket engines were tested the sound was very loud. Evidently one chicken farmer came and knocked on the testing site's blockhouse door to complain that his chickens had stopped laying eggs because of the noise. The farmer was then visited by the military who offered him a check to compensate for his lost revenue.
T
he next meeting of the history group will be on July 18, 2019
at
10:15 in the Local History Room. July's meeting will be a "show and tell" format. All attending are encouraged to bring photographs or memorabilia from Franklin Lakes to share with the group.
