Art and the Holocaust Program

Open Registration

IHE invites Middle school art teachers to register today for Art and the Holocaust, an impactful program that uses visual art to help students connect personally with Holocaust history.

By teaching a provided Holocaust lesson and guiding students in creating powerful works, educators can foster both historical understanding and creative expression.

Students also write reflections to deepen their learning, and their artwork is showcased in a culminating exhibit at the Eisenberg Art Gallery. With curriculum resources and art supply stipends provided, this is a meaningful opportunity for students on how art can preserve memory and foster understanding.

Register now to participate and give your students the chance to learn, create, and remember.

Lunch and Learn Series

August 21 | 11:30 AM | Via ZOOM

The Institute for Holocaust Education invites you to our upcoming Third Thursday Lunch and Learn, featuring U.S. Congressman Don Bacon. In this engaging virtual presentation, Congressman Bacon will discuss his role in promoting Holocaust education and addressing rising antisemitism across the country. As a member of the Board of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, he brings a unique perspective on the importance of remembrance, education, and action in combating hate.

This session is part of our ongoing Third Thursday series, which aims to educate, engage, and empower the community through meaningful discussions on the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights.

We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful and timely discussion.

Women in Auschwitz

August 27 | 7 PM | JCC Weisman Family Reception Room

IHE is honored to partner with UNL Harris Center for Judaic Studies to hear from Dr. Sarah Cushman, Director of the Holocaust Educational Foundation at Northwestern University and a leading scholar on women’s experiences during the Holocaust.

In this powerful talk, Dr. Cushman will examine the roles of three distinct groups of women in Auschwitz-Birkenau: prisoners including Jewish, Romani, and political women, who struggled to survive under brutal conditions; female SS personnel who enforced Nazi policies; and the wives of SS officers who supported the regime. Through this lens, she will explore how these women lived, suffered, and interacted in one of history’s most infamous camps.

Join us for this powerful lecture and hear Dr. Cushman’s unique perspective on preserving the legacy of these women and the history of Auschwitz.

Our goal is to ensure that the tragedy and history of the Holocaust are remembered, that appropriate, fact-based instruction and materials are available to students, educators, and the public to enable them to learn the lessons of the Holocaust and that, as a result, we inspire our community to create a more just and equitable society.
