Enter your business or organization at this year's Festival of Trees! This friendly contest is for any group, business, church or nonprofit organization in Jackson County. Entry is free. Trees will be voted on by the public December 1-21 with winners for Most Comical, Most Traditional, Most Unique and Best Overall Tree. Enter by November 30, entry forms are available at the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds to toward the Chamber's scholarship and Arkansas Scholars programs.


Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation is collecting toys for children in Jackson County. The Newport Area Chamber of Commerce is a toy collection site for those wanting to donate. For more information contact Deborah Tenner 870-686-7216.


Jackson County Cub Scout Pack 43 are hosting Scouting for Food Drive now through November 17. To participate as a drop off location contact Tara 870-217-5754. Items may be dropped off at the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, 209 Hazel Street.


Manna Food Pantry will have a Northeast Arkansas Fill the Food Bank Event on Friday, November 15, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. located at Walmart. All proceeds and donations will stay in Jackson County.


Arkansas Department of Corrections, 300 Corrections Drive, will host a Hiring Event for Grimes and McPherson Unit on Friday, November 15, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services Mobile Unit will be onsite to assist with applications. The Jackson County Community Theatre presents Elf Jr. The Musical is on Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. and on November 16 and November 17 starting at 2:00 p.m. located at ASU Newport Center for the Arts. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, First Community Bank, M & P Bank locations, and are available for purchase at the door.


The City of Newport, Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Newport Economic Development Commission will be closed for Thanksgiving on November 28 & November 29th. City-wide residential garbage pickup will be on Wednesday, November 25.


The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Program has applications open for Spring 2025 and will close on December 1, 2024. To apply for a scholarship, visit www.aspsf.org/applynow.


The Jackson County Community Crisis Coalition will meet Tuesday, December 3, at 1:00 p.m. located at Tech Depot, 209 Hazel Street. The coalition serves as a resource for the residents of Jackson County to address homelessness, food insecurity, physical & mental health crisis and more. The community is invited to attend.


Jackson County Wellness and Screening will have a Mammogram Screening on Friday, December 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. located at the First United Methodist Church, 217 Laurel Street. Free Diabetic A1C testing will be available. Please bring your driver’s license and insurance card, if applicable. Grant funding is available for uninsured/underinsured. The Newport Christmas Parade will be Thursday, December 12, starting at 6:00 p.m. Participants will be traveling from Riceland Foods to Third Street/Malcolm Avenue down to Village Mall parking lot. To enter the parade, please return the following information Parade Entry Form to the Newport Chamber, 209 Hazel Street, or email the completed form to director@Newportarchamber.org.


The American Red Cross will have a Blood Drive on Thursday, December 19, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. located at Tech Depot, 209 Hazel Street.
