ICGC Social Services
Education Program Coordinator
The Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati (ICGC) Social Services is pleased to announce that  Mary Joan Reutter  has joined our team as the  Education Program Coordinator .

In this position, Ms. Reutter will be planning, developing and managing all social services education programs including Adult ESL and Success@School. She will be reporting directly to Samira Jaweed.

Ms. Reutter has a strong history of focus on immigrant education and integration, going back to her family roots. She inherited a first edition copy of President Kennedy’s book,  A Nation of Immigrants  from her father, who was a professor of American history and ethnic studies. Her educational background includes linguistics, education and immigration law. [University of Cincinnati College of Law: J.D. University of Michigan, M.A. ESL/Linguistics and University of Notre Dame B.A. German and English.]
Her early career in adult education was in academic prep for college and university, including 8 years as Instructor and 1 year as Acting Director at the University of Maine. Maine was as beautiful and as cold as she had expected. She returned to warmer weather and family roots to attend law school in Cincinnati and has stayed since then. Her work in immigration law focused on family immigration, domestic violence, and asylum law.
Her passion for working with adults with limited literacy has led her to a career spanned over two decades in Cincinnati, during which she has worn many different hats and worked for different agencies. Her experience in teaching, curriculum development, and teacher training in addition to program delivery makes her a highly favorable and strong match for this position.
Her philosophy of education is strength-based, designed to help learners draw on their own inner resources. She believes in collaborating with all stakeholders and enjoys big picture/long-term adult educational needs analysis and is an avid reader of the Migration Policy Institute and similar resources.
We are really excited to have her on board and she is looking forward to meeting the community soon.
Congratulations to Community members who went on Hajj this year - May Allah SWT accept their Hajj!
