Lunch and Learn Series

October 16 | 11:30 AM | Via ZOOM

Join the Institute for Holocaust Education for our Lunch & Learn series featuring Micah Huyser, Executive Director of the Nebraska Prairie Museum. Huyser will share the powerful story of Thomas Naegele, a Jewish refugee who later served as an interpreter at Nebraska’s Camp Indianola during WWII and whose paintings of that time were later exhibited at the Met and now reside at the Nebraska Prairie Museum.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore a little-known chapter of Nebraska history through art, storytelling, and scholarship.

In partnership with the Nebraska Jewish Historical Society, selected works will also be on display at the JCC Eisenberg Gallery.

Educator and Practitioner Workshop

October 19 | 1:30 - 3:00 PM | JCC Eisenberg Gallery

Join IHE for a special workshop exploring the life, art, and legacy of Thomas Naegele, a Jewish refugee and U.S. Army interpreter at Nebraska’s Camp Indianola during WWII. Participants will gain tools to integrate his story and artwork into Holocaust and history education through visual storytelling and primary sources.

All workshop attendees will receive a free copy of Naegele’s 2024 book, published by the Nebraska Prairie Museum.

Naegele’s paintings will be on display in the JCC Eisenberg Gallery throughout the entire month of October. We invite the entire community to experience this powerful exhibit and reflect on this unique perspective of Nebraska's WWII history.

This program is presented in partnership with the Nebraska Prairie Museum, the Nebraska Jewish Historical Society, and the Norman and Bernice Harris Center for Judaic Studies at UNL.

Our goal is to ensure that the tragedy and history of the Holocaust are remembered, that appropriate, fact-based instruction and materials are available to students, educators, and the public to enable them to learn the lessons of the Holocaust and that, as a result, we inspire our community to create a more just and equitable society.
