The
African Family Health Organization
is a 501(c)(3) community-based non profit organization that provides culturally and linguistically sensitive health, human, and educational support services to African and Caribbean immigrants and refugees in the greater Philadelphia area.
Through our programs and services we are able to: provide our clients with ESL classes, intensive case management, workshops and health fairs that focus on community needs, in addition to providing education and facilitating access to health care for Maternal and Child Health, Family Planning, Female Genital Cutting, and other special health care needs. We also provide after school programming with math and English language support through our African Youth Empowerment Program (AYEP), help promote healthy nutrition through out
Eat Right, Live Bright
program for youth ages 5-7, work on increasing community health literacy and language access, and more!
In the coming days and months, AFAHO looks forward to holding workshops and testing events in West African and East African communities of Philadelphia that increase knowledge of and screening for Hepatitis B and other health care needs as community members seek out information about issues they encounter in their communities.

February's
featured video
shares Jin's story.
When she was very young, Jinqiu’s mother told her she has a germ and that she shouldn’t touch anyone if she was bleeding. Later, Jinqiu disclosed to her entire class that she has hepatitis B. Her mother visited Jinqiu’s school to make sure everyone was aware of what it meant, for a student to live with the virus. Today, Jinqiu feels that it’s her responsibility to disclose to new potential romantic partners that she is hepatitis B positive, and each time she does this, she gains new confidence and strength.

During 2018, we are highlighting a unique patient story each month. Our
#justB
Storytelling Campaign is a national effort to bring individuals affected by hepatitis B to share their stories to shed light on this serious disease, decrease stigma, discrimination, and promote the importance of testing and treatment for hepatitis B. If you want to host a screening of the videos, we can help! It is a great way to spread the word and engage your local communities! Email
