June was packed full of events, from our first ever Annual Pickleball Tournament to the United Way Worldwide Conference! The conference was held in Orlando, Florida, and one of our team members was able to attend the three-day event, learning from incredible classes, taking part in interactive events, and meeting inspiring people from all over the country. The conference centered around transformation, and what a transformation it was! Though our United Way is small, we are excited to implement all that we've learned into how we impact Lincoln County and our beloved community here! At the end of the conference, our team member came back to Lincoln County full of ideas and new information about how to help UWLC take on Lincoln County's problems!
After the conference, United Way turned its focus to pickleball—with thirteen teams, our first Annual Pickleball Tournament was a huge success! UWLC is very grateful to Atrium Health for being the Signature Sponsor, as well as The Timken Company for being Impact Sponsor. Additionally, we are thankful to the Lincolnton Parks and Recreation for letting us use their pickleball courts, as well as Pepsi and My Brothers Bagels for donating drinks and bagels to the event! Above all, we're so appreciative of the picklers who joined in our tournament and helped us raise money and awareness for what United Way does and how we impact our community! This is just our first pickleball tournament, and we cannot wait to host our next one!
Last month was a very exciting month, and we're sure the coming months will be even better!

According to NC211, there were 119 requests for assistance throughout the month of June to 211. The majority of these calls were for housing and shelter, specifically for rent assistance. The next highest need was for assistance was utilities. These are consistently the two highest needs in Lincoln County, but there was an increase in calls from May to June. This is also a high increase from last June, but that may be more due to public awareness of 211 as a resource. Either way, having these numbers is helpful in knowing what Lincoln County residents struggle with most.

It's Time to Stuff the Bus!
This year, United Way of Lincoln County has teamed up with Atrium Health, HUBER Technology, Communities in School, and Lincoln County Schools to collect school supplies across the county for Lincoln County children in need!
Collections will be taken from July 7—Aug. 8, and collection locations can be found on the United Way of Lincoln County website. You can help United Way make an impact in Lincoln County children’s lives by collecting school supplies and donating them across Lincoln County at these Stuff the Bus locations!
| Beyond gathering supplies, you can also make a difference by volunteering during Sort and Shop Days in August! Volunteers can sign up for either day or both. On Sort Day, volunteers will be at either the Central ARC or the West ARC, sorting the supplies that have been donated throughout Stuff the Bus. On Shop Day, the ARC will be open for teachers to gather supplies for the upcoming school year. Sign up below: | | |
SUN Meals with Lincoln County Schools
Lincoln County Schools are offering free grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches on Wednesdays from June 4 through July 23! Meals can be received at either Norris Childers at 11AM—1PM or Battleground 4PM—6PM and are for any child or young adult age 18 or younger. Families should stay in the car and pull up to the designated area, and students do not have to be present to receive meals. Adults picking up the meals will have to fill out a form indicating the student for whom they are picking up the meals. Each Wednesday, the person picking up the food will receive five breakfasts and five lunches during program operation.

Be a Hero at Community in School's Comic Con
Join Community in School of Lincoln County Comic Con on Saturday, July 19 from 10 AM—4 PM! This event is fun for the whole family with a cosplay showcase, vendors, artists, and more! Admission is $5, and attendees under 10 get free admission. This event will take place at the Lincolnton High School, and parking information can be found on their social media page and on their website.

Back to School Events Are Coming Soon!
There are so many fun back-to-school events happening in early August across Lincoln County, so make sure to mark your calendars! First up is Love Lincoln, happening on August 2 at 11 AM at Freedom Church. This event has free backpacks filled with school supplies and will have fun events like a bounce house, carnival games, face paintings, story time, and free lunch for attendees! Next is ARC Shopping Day on August 7 from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Asbury Resource Center. This event is focused on free clothing, shoes, and hygiene products, and attendees must RSVP with their school social worker. Finally, there are two back-to-school events on August 9: West Zone and Love Denver! West Zone will be at the West Lincoln Middle School from 9 AM to 12 PM and will offer free haircuts, school supplies, shoes, groceries, clothes, backpacks, and more, and students and families should register with their school social worker. Love Denver will be held at East Lincoln High School from 10 AM to 2 PM and will offer free haircuts, backpacks filled with school supplies, lunch, sports physicals, medical screenings, prayer, faith resources, and more! Each of these events are incredible opportunities for families and students in need, so make sure to share this information far and wide!

Sunny Updates from the Sunrise Community
The Sunrise Community received an art grant this summer thanks to the Lincoln Cultural Center, and we are so happy to share the amazing results that we're seeing for the children and teens that are benefiting from it! The art grant has been split in many different ways, from dance to painting to music, and in every method, the kids are responding beautifully! Check it out in these photos!

Volunteer Opportunities
There are many different ways to make an impact our community, and you can get involved right away! Become a regular volunteer by being a donation coordinator at the ARC to sort through donations, a mentor at the Sunrise Community for kids and teens after school, or a resource coordinator with United Way for individuals in need. For July, our board member of the month is Tri Tang, DBA, MHA, FACHE. Tri is a seasoned healthcare executive with over 20 years of leadership experience spanning various sectors, including healthcare operations, strategic planning, and academics and is one of the newest board members at United Way of Lincoln County!
As the Facility Executive of Atrium Health Lincoln, Tri leads the strategic direction and oversees all medical center operations. He focused on delivering high-quality care and keeping Lincoln County patients close to home. He also has a passion for fostering a safe and supportive culture for teammates, providers, and patients.
Tri’s journey in healthcare began as a combat medic in the U.S. Army. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the Virginia Military Institute, a Master of Health Care Administration (MHA) from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Outside of his education, he has also been recognized for his contributions to healthcare leadership. Tri has received the American College of Healthcare Executives’ Regent’s Award and was named among the Charlotte Business Journal’s "40 Under 40." Because of his ability to build teams, as well as develop and execute plans, he will prove to be an amazing addition to the UWLC board, and we are so glad to highlight him this month!
