Monday's and Tuesday's: We offer Immigration Legal Services to Constituents.  Two Attorneys, Joseph and Rosie come in to assist CT's with Immigration proceedings, court appearances and status checks. Attorneys are provided to us by CUNY Citizenship NOW.

 

2nd Thursday of the Month: We offer Employment Legal Services/clinic to constituents.  An attorney (varies every month) comes in to assist CT's with unemployment, workplace discrimination and unemployment issues. Attorneys are provided to us by MFY Legal Services.

 

 Health Care:

 Wednesday's: We offer Health Care Assistance to our constituents. A Health Care consultant/case manager comes and meets with CT's to apply for health insurances-specifically OBAMA CARE insurance. The consultant, Gricel completes, submits and processes OBAMA CARE applications.  The Consultant is provided to us by Northern Manhattan Improvement Crop.

Partnerships for Parks 2013 Conference: Strong communities make NYC great. But what makes our communities strong? When New Yorkers use NYC's parks and green spaces as places to celebrate, recreate, and learn, neighborhoods become vibrant communities. Since 1995, Partnerships for Parks has been supporting these park-related community groups to help make NYC thrive. Consular ID & Immigration Documentation Event: With the recent developments on immigration reform, it's crucial that families have the most up to date and correct information, as well as access to key services. There are steps immigrant families can take to be prepared for immigration reform, including: obtaining an identity document from their consulate; applying for DACA if they qualify; getting the latest information on immigration reform proposals; and engaging in their children's education now and in the long run. The Consulates of the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Ecuador and El Salvador will be providing passports, consular IDs and passport certifications. The Manhattan DA's office of Immigrant Affairs will be conducting a workshop to help workers and families with fraud prevention. At PS 128 (560 W. 169th St. @ Broadway). Free art Classes for Kids: The United Palace of Cultural Arts and Creative Arts Workshops for Kids are teaming up to provide a visual arts class for 3rd, 4th & 5th graders. The class will explore several art techniques as teaching artists take kids back in time to groove their way through the 60's. Students will engage in a variety of mixed-media craft projects that explore the decade, including popular art, music and literature. Students also will explore community awareness and community service through the Hippie & Civil Rights Movements. FREE, but you must register and commit to attending ALL of the classes. Reconnect to Fort Tryon Park's revolutionary war history: In commemoration of the 237th anniversary of the Revolutionary War's Battle of Fort Washington, members of the Brigade of the American Revolution will set up camp on Fort Tryon Park's Cafe Lawn. Visitors will travel back in time and see demonstrations of how the Continental Army functioned during America's War for Independence. There will be arts and crafts for kids, compliments of the Fort Tryon Park Trust and the Morris-Jumel Mansion. Revolutionary War Heroine Margaret Corbin will be giving tours of the battle area. In addition, a blacksmith will demonstrate his craft and local historian James Renner will display historic photographs and maps. Dress up in your finest colonial clothes to enter our costume contest and win great prizes. There will be two categories: most authentic and most creative. On the Caf� Lawn in Fort Tryon Park. Celebrate the People's Theatre Project's 5th Anniversary of Community Building through the Arts in Washington Heights at their "Kickback to Kickoff" event! Casablanca: The United Palace of Cultural Arts celebrates the return of film with the American classic, Casablanca. The evening begins at 6pm with a number of special events, including: a re-enactment of part of the inaugural program from 1930 when the building opened as the Loewe's 175th Street Theatre; screening a scene from the first movie that played at the Palace, 1929's Their Own Desire, with Norma Shearer and Robert Montgomery; an introduction to "Casablanca" by NY film critic Lou Lumenick; the world premiere of the music video to the song "Bouger" by American rapper GPK, which was filmed at the Palace and features a contemporary homage to Casablanca; music and dancing from the 1940s; raffle prizes including the opportunity to take home a life-size Bogie. At 7pm, they'll screen "Casablanca" on the United Palace's 50-foot silver screen with Spanish subtitles. "Memories Interlaced," an Exhibit by Andrea Arroyo: Arroyo's exhibit marries the elegant historical venue with bright contemporary art. NYPD Coat & Food Drive: The 34th Precinct is a designated site for the 25th Annual New York Care's Coat Drive, running through February 7, 2014. Anyone can drop off coats at the Precinct any time during the day. (Anyone is in need of a coat can call the Coat Drive Hotline: 646-801-4022.)  The 34th Precinct also is a designated site for this year's City Harvest Food Drive, running through January 10, 2014. Anyone can drop off food items at the 34th Precinct any time during the day; the most helpful items are canned fruit, canned vegetables, peanut butter (plastic jars), packaged mac-and-cheese, packaged hot or cold cereals. Habitat for Humanity.  On Sunday, November 24th, Congregation Ansche Chesed will have ten slots to volunteer with a home build in Laurelton, Queens. It's a full day where we'll carpool leaving the upper west side at 8:30am and returning at 5:30pm. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. No previous experience necessary. In addition, the candidate will provide 1:1 counseling and support to individual seniors and caregivers as appropriate, maintain service records, and communicate with all disciplines involved in patient care. The Diabetes Educator may also participate in community outreach to seniors at health fairs and other community events. MTA "FasTrack" Shutdowns for A/C/B/D trains: The FASTRACK maintenance program completely suspends train service over a segment of subway line, to give our workers uninterrupted access to tracks, signals, cables, lighting, third rail components, and platform edges. The upcoming FASTRACK outage will be in effect nightly, from 10pm-5am, starting on Monday, November 18th through Friday, November 22nd. During these nightly outages, there will be no A-trains between 59th Street and 207th Street and no D trains between 59th Street and 161st Street-Yankee Stadium. B and C services end early each night.
