Midwest PMP/Appendix Cancer Symposium

Edward Hospital, Naperville (Chicago), IL - Tuesday, October 6, 2015

We are happy to announce our first ever Midwest United States symposium which will be held at Edward Hospital in Naperville (Chicago) on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Hosted by Dr. George Salti and with a faculty to include Dr. Paul Sugarbaker, this promises to be a great event. Details and registration information coming soon.

 

Fifth Annual UMass/PMPRF PMP/Appendix Cancer Patient-Practitioner Symposium

Worcester, MA - Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Save the date for this year's fifth annual event, covering the latest advances in the treatment of PMP and Appendiceal Cancer hosted by Dr. Laura Lambert. Details coming later this year!

 

2015 Fundraising Events   

Registration is now open for our Ninth Annual PMP Cancer Walk and Dad's Day 5k taking place once again on Father's Day, Sunday June 21, 2015 just outside Philadelphia, PA. Over the past 9 years this fantastic event has raised over $250,000 for PMP research and education. Come join us, or better yet bring your family and friends and form a team of walkers!  If you can't make it in person, why not set up a personal fundraising page and walk in your own neighborhood? Summer Scurry Logo The Sixth Annual Summer Scurry takes place this year on Saturday, August 8, 2015just outside Cleveland, OH. This event honors the memory of our founder, Lisa Luciano and includes a 5K Walk/Run, One Mile Kids & Family Fun Run, Lisa's Kids Fest and more. This event has raised over $250,000 for PMP research over the past 5 years. Register here!   

 

Team Keith The Team Keith Memorial Pub Crawl takes place this year on Saturday, August 22, 2015in Naperville, IL. This event honors the life and memory of Keith Surges. Team Keith now has partnered with the PMP Research Foundation to continue its mission of Research and Education. Registration is now open! 

 

Hoops for a Cure The 1st Annual Hoops for a Cure Basketball Challenge is happening in Mooresville, NC on Saturday, September 26th! Help raise money for Appendix Cancer and PMP research. Come enjoy a day full of basketball events: 3v3, 4v4, 3-point Dunk Competition and more. Cheer on your family and friends in a fun atmosphere. 2015 Grant Opportunities

The PMP Research Foundation will once again be offering two $50,000 2-year research grants for 2015 to be administered by NORD. The Request for Proposal will be available the first week of June. Abstracts will be due in August, full proposal invitations will be announced in September, full proposals must be received by NORD in October, and the award announcements will be made in December, 2015. Please visit PMPRF's Research Grant Program or NORD's Research Grant Program to learn more and to access the RFP when it is available in early June.

Our past grant recipients continue to publish cutting edge research results made possible by PMP Research Foundation grants! Check out recent works published by Dr. Renehan and team (2009 and 2011 recipient), "Global gene expression in pseudomyxoma peritonei, with parallel development of two immortalized cell lines;" and Drs. Zeh (2009 recipient) and Guo (2010 recipient), "Mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibition reduces mucin 2 production and mucinous tumor growth."

NORD Small Bowel Syndrome Patient Meetings

The National Organization for Rare Disorders invites patients and caregivers/families affected by Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) to participate in special events to meet other patients and speak with a medical expert.  

 

These meetings will provide an opportunity for you to come together in a small group and gain the encouragement and hope that comes from meeting face-to-face with other SBS patients. Everyone will be able to share personal experiences with each other, gain a better understanding of this rare disease, and help others cope with the effects of their illness.  

 

NORD will support the efforts of the SBS community by sharing accurate and useful information. All patients will receive a travel stipend to offset the cost of attending the event. Upcoming meetings are as follows:

Patient Advocate Award  

PMPRF President Jerry Lewandowski was proud to accept the first Gabriella Graham Patient Advocate Award at UPMC Regional Cancer Therapies 2015 which was held in Sand Key, Florida in February.
