A Letter from the Director...
Happy Valentine's and Presidents' Day! My heart is heavy this year as the Library Board and I continue to analyze and review the various areas of the library budget that will be curtailed due to municipal funding cuts. It is evident that the areas of staffing, technology, janitorial services, as well as, children and adult programming will be impacted. More information regarding these cuts will be made available on the library website later this month.

We are grateful for the support we received through the library's annual campaign. Although these generous contributions from all four of the library's supporting municipalities help to serve the communities, the library needs equitable financial support from our municipalities to be sustainable.

Even with the financial challenges we are facing, the library staff is dedicated to Nazareth's community living room. We will continue to be a hub for digital intelligence, civic engagement, and space for people to meet, read, work and play. Danielle Wyatt, Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne sums up what the Memorial Library of Nazareth means to the Nazareth community, "Public library services are built on relationships, not just transactions; they are entwined with the specific and deeply local context of everyday life in communities they serve."

See you at the library!

Tips from Joshua Tree!
Thanks to Our Friends at Joshua Tree for These Timely Tips!

Common Household Pests of Winter
  • Spiders can be found year round inside a structure but particularly as temperatures get colder.  They can survive a long time without food (mainly insects or even other spiders).
  • Centipedes are commonly found inside structures during the winter months.  Also known as "thousand leggers," they certainly have a negative impact on many people because of their appearance.  These pests prefer damp basements and crawl spaces.  Like the spider, they feed on other insects as well so there are some benefits but try selling that to a homeowner.
  • Silverfish are another insect which can generate large populations and damage indoors if left untreated.  Silverfish will feed mainly on starches and cellulose which is contained in paper products.  Book bindings, adhesives, and paper-backed insulation are preferred by these prehistoric looking insects.  Silverfish can be found anywhere in the home but are common in attics.
  • Grain Product Pests include insects like the Indian meal moth, cigarette beetle, red flour beetle, sawtooth grain beetle, and weevils.  These pests are often found in bird feed and pet food but will also be found in flour and other grain products.  Good storage practices will help control and eliminate these pests.
  • Mice will live happily indoors all year round and if left be can generate large populations indoors.  Trapping them early is the best defense.
Giving Thanks
Special Thanks to Gracedale Nursing Home for hosting
Toddler Shake & Boogie on February 10th!

A great time was had by more than 50 people as we took this toddler favorite on the road to Gracedale Nursing Home! Children, parents, and residents all enjoyed the merriment as we sang songs, played instruments, marched, and even had some fun with a parachute!
Thanks very much to Gracedale for allowing us to visit!

A list of annual campaign donors is on display outside of the director's office.
A Gift to Your Library is a Gift to Yourself.
Over the years, patrons and friends of the Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity have made contributions in a variety of ways. They have taken advantage of the opportunity to reduce the cost of gifts through tax savings, while at the same time maintaining or increasing their value to the library. Memorial and other special gifts are a meaningful way of paying tribute or recognizing a special achievement. Contributions to the Library are tax deductible.
