The Liturgy of the Eucharist is the central part of the Roman Catholic Mass in which the Church fulfills Christ’s command at the Last Supper: “Do this in memory of me.” The bread and wine are brought to the altar, offered to God, and through the prayer of the priest and the power of the Holy Spirit become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The faithful then join in the Eucharistic Prayer, give thanks to God for the gift of salvation, and receive Holy Communion, deepening their union with Christ and one another. Through this sacred celebration, Catholics are nourished spiritually and sent forth to live the Gospel in their daily lives.
