After COVID-19, we have been getting calls for practitioner referrals, but only sometimes in the client's city or state of need. We need practitioners in all 50 states, so do consider joining!

Consider doing a seasonal detox. We have all made some indulgences, so it's time for a detox. Book your colon therapy appointment, do your juicing, and possibly a week or two of natural living so the body can release all the junk. If not, the body will self-detox as a cold, flu, or whatever your health issues are. Don't hesitate to contact our member holistic health practitioners and wellness centers if you need any guidance to detox. It must be done correctly, especially if the patient is diabetic or on medication.
While in many parts of our nation, the COVID-19 variant is rampant, let's keep our immune system in tip-top shape with lots of alkaline water and vitamin C & D + Multivitamins for starters!

As a Chapter, we promised to keep his work alive. He taught the community for many years to heal with nature. We have done an excellent job, but many students need to start using their healing skills for many reasons. He tasked the Chapter to be a safe space to help build confidence and incubate those needing support to develop their practice. Due to Covid, many requests come for holistic health referrals, but we need more practitioners.
Dr. Afrika wanted us to support and care for each other as students, practitioners, wellness center owners, and teachers. If you can work with teams of practitioners, there is a place for you in the Chapter. If not a practitioner, we are always in need of volunteers.
Dr. Llaila Afrika sanctioned us to form a Chapter. He intended for us to "Make it so" our mission of holistic health education in communities of color, and we have tried not to disappoint; we hope you agree.

In 1981, when I first graduated college, my first job was a manager at a staffing agency. I majored in Health Administration because I knew that I wanted to eventually run my own business. It gave me pure delight to call up all of the people that I knew and register them to work to supplement their income while caring for others.
I think it’s amazing that what will likely be my last job here at The Wellness Galaxy will be an assignment that creates the same result.
In this newsletter, we will introduce you to a new concept Agency offering part-time jobs that blend health and wellness.
When I became a nurse almost 40 years ago, there was no internet, no holographic, state-of-the-art imaging machines, and very few holistic career options.
In addition to my current work in hospice, which is gratifying in itself, I have traveled a career path that still fulfills and energizes me.
Next year, I will celebrate 40 years of nursing that started in newborn nursery/Pediatrics and will end with Hospice.
This journey is one of the magical stories that we will share with you in our Anthology

My name is Nfr KaRaa. I have been a licensed clinical social worker for almost 40 years. My background has included working as a school social worker for the NYC public schools in the Bronx while maintaining a wholistic private practice with children, adults, couples and families. I implement a variety of traditional and wholistic approaches. My professional training includes an undergraduate degree in psychology at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, M.D. (’79) plus a masters degree in social work at Hunter College School of Social Work in N.Y.C. (’81). I am also certified in hypnotherapy, play therapy, polarity (an energy- based healing system that includes reflexology, cranial sacral, dream interpretations,utrition, etc.) reiki, pranic healing and neurolinguistic programming (NLP). I have also been trained in aromatherapy, naturopathic, crystal work, sound therapy, EFT (aka tapping) and Queen Afua’s sacred woman program. I have also studied our Kemetic history/mdw ntchr (aka hieroglyphics) and African martial arts called Kupigana Ngumi. The trainings for these wholistic techniques were by experts in the wholistic community such as Dr. Llaila Afrika, Dr. John Beaulieu, Rev. Phil Valentine, Mfundishi Jhutyms, Jeff Noble, Dawson Church and other trainers through the Open Center in NYC.
I have also traveled throughout various countries in Africa, Europe and Asia, the Caribbean, Canada and across the United States. I have always felt it is crucial to travel and study in a diversity of places in order to be more culturally sensitive to the people you are working with.
I provide experiential and didactic presentations/consultations/environmental assessments for corporations, community organizations, spiritual organizations, rites of passages, etc. I also provide individual/couple/family sessions implementing a combination of techniques from my traditional clinical and wholistic trainings. I also infuse aspects of cultural awareness; raw food/vegan food preparation; making your own natural deodorant/facial astringents/hair & body oils; conscious shopping demonstrations and instructions plus transforming your home to be green/people friendly as well as be your own personal oasis. Make things as light as feather…
Things will rise and grow and fall to rest to rise again.
In terms of health, both mental and physical, I have been thinking of the timeless saying 'Light as a feather.' Or light as a feather.'
Who said that?
What is termed as an idiom has been uttered by many for over several centuries usually referring to both be light in weight of thought and body mass. Our earliest reference comes from the culture of Kemet also known as Egypt within the expansive land mass of what we know today as Africa. What is known as The Weighing of the Heart ceremony depicted the weighing of the heart of a person, who has made their transition from physical life against a feather. Already we can see this event is not taking place in the physical realm but rather in a realm that is lighter in density. It is said that if the deeds/actions stored in the heart are lighter than a feather, the soul/spirit can make their ascension into higher realms of consciousness.
…but how does this relate to Massage Therapy and Bodywork or just daily living?
For me, it is a consistent almost automatic journey of looking into the body and experiencing the mechanisms in real time (uses the senses to acknowledge changes in pressure, temperature, and frequency). To give an energetic culturally focus, I will periodically match the western explanations of anatomy and physiology to African x Asian Life-story and experience.
For instance, I was recently thinking about Maat and how the ostrich feather is resilient yet light in weight as well as expansive. The structure of it is durable yet flexible. The appearance creates the idea of weightlessness within the mind…and that image can literally shift focus away from tension to relaxation.
Bringing that thought into the concept of normal resting lengths of muscles as well as rest and cessation of movement, I was compelled to draw together practices utilizing these natural events (within us).
Making use of what we all have great practice in and that is breathing.
When we experience pain in our muscles, it typically feels weighted and electrified (either dull or shooting). Our limbs seize up in motion and FEEL the inability to access with a relaxed sense of being. Of course, if the chain reaction of this sensation spreads across our body, our emotional selves may react by further condensing our structures.
The total opposite of feeling light as a feather.
However, I found that rhythmic slow breathing and focus into the muscles helps to unwrap some of those bound up muscles...to reveal a feather.
Let me explain...
Sometimes our smaller muscles in charge of stabilization are either over-stretched for an extended period or over-used. In any case, you may do a movement at a velocity your body cannot process/perform, specifically the larger movement muscles, which results in the smaller stabilizing (tonic) muscles rushing in and acting as a splint.
A splint?
Basically, they (tonic muscles) are protecting the phasic (movement) muscles from further injury and placing them in a state to begin healing which means the area must be inactive. Of course, this is impossible in some of the lives we have chosen.
Now…getting to the simple practice of making things a little lighter…like a feather.
Take a moment to find a good position (standing or laying down) and breathe gently into the area of pain. As you breathe in, see the area expand like feathers on wings with the muscle fibers relaxed, when you breathe out see the muscles gently contract around the muscles evenly as if flapping the wings. After a couple of rounds, gently and gradually move into the movement that has caused pain, keep the breathing strategy mentioned earlier in mind.
Muscles use nutrients and oxygen to perform which is enhanced by the accessibility of transmission. The more these essential elements can enter the muscles with ease, the more recovery can be in sight. Basically, your body needs to feel confident that you can perform muscular actions without injury or broken patterns.
Use your breathing to build confidence in the muscles as you guide oxygen into the focused areas. Visualize the quills of feathers moving effortlessly in the wind. Remember our thoughts can become heavy when we are worried or overly concerned which can cause immediate responses with our body.
Practice. See if yourself successful!!!

Registration is now open! The course starts June 1st @ 1pm. Please submit your payment of $125 to confirm your June 1st Registration and to hold your seat. Once your Registration is confirmed, I will email you the full Course Description, along with protocols for Zoom etiquette and expectations for class attendance.
PLEASE NOTE: There needs to be a minimum of 5-6 people registered for a course to begin. Once you pay your registration fee, if there are not enough people to start the course, your payments will be immediately refunded in full.
I've attached the curriculum flyer for your reference. For this cycle, classes will be held every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 1pm to 3pm (as there is another class currently going on from 10am to 12n); the cost is $125 per month; there will be handouts and class materials for each class; all classes are recorded and the recordings sent out within 24-48 hours of the class. There will be Pop Quizzes, a Mid-Term and Final Exams. There will be many opportunities throughout the course to earn Extra Credit toward your final grade. Certificates will be issued to those who pass with a 75% or better grade.

Since we have obtained accreditation, we have been getting many request from students on how to obtain board certification. We want to explain the process so that you will have an easier time in your decision if you desire board certification.
1. Naturopathic Mastery Certification (NMAC) 2 yr ALOP Associate Program
2. Natural Health and Wellness Consultant Certification (NHWC) 1 yr program
3. Naturopathic Herbalist Certification (NHT) 1 yr program
4. Naturopathic Clinician Certification (NCT) 1 yr program
Please note short single course certifications do not qualify.
Board Certification with AADP requires you to go to their website and complete either the online application or you can download the application. You will need the following information: a complete application, current photograph, official copy of your A Life Of Peace Transcript, application fee, certification fee, and copies of your original certificate.
Board Certification with AANWP can be non-exam certification or through Board Examination certification. The applications are online on their website and pretty straight forward through the APPLY NOW link.
