|In lieu of our regular April meeting, the Alpha Omega Council will be attending the Boston Marathon Wreath Ceremony at the Massachusetts State House. We are co-hosting this event with the Consul General of Greece in Boston. He will be presenting the Boston Athletic Association with olive wreaths from Greece to crown the winners of the Boston Marathon. This is a reminder to all the Hellenic roots of the marathon race.
In addition, students from Hopkinton, Ashland and Boston will be recognized for winning an essay contest conducted by our Marathon Education Committee in cooperation with the respective schools. The essays address what can be learned from the ancient battle of Marathon to apply to our present day lives, and connect Ancient Athens and democracy to our American democracy today.
A very special presentation will be made to Police Commissioner (and dedicated marathon runner) William Evans for his service to Boston and the Boston Marathon.
The evening is an important one for the Alpha Omega Council. It will show the Massachusetts community who we are and demonstrate what we do. We have catered food and beverage.
Please join us for drinks (cash bar) and small apps immediately following the conclusion of the wreath ceremony at the Union Club located at 8 Park St. Boston. Proper dress protocol is required, and cell phone use in public areas of the Club is not allowed. There is no charge for the evening.
