Summer is in full swing, bringing an exceptional lineup of music, theater, art, gardens, history, and family fun throughout Stockbridge and the Berkshires. This week features the annual book sale at the Stockbridge Library, the opening of Rebel Town the Musical, Popular Artist Series Ziggy Marley and Trombone, Pillow Pride Weekend, Free Community Day and more.


PERFORMING ARTS

Berkshire Theatre Group

  • Through July 16 – 1776 at the Colonial Theatre (Pittsfield)
    A large-scale community production reimagines the founding of the nation through a local lens, bringing together more than 50 regional artists in a spirited retelling of a defining moment in American history.
  • Through July 11 – The American Five at the Unicorn Theatre.

Jacob’s Pillow — Festival Week 3 |July 8–12 (Becket)

  • London’s Akram Khan Company returns to Jacob’s Pillow to present its final touring production Thikra: Night of Remembering in the Ted Shawn Theatre.
  • Jingle Dancer Acosia Red Elk, Hula Hālau Pua Ali’i ’llima, and BAAD! Bronx academy of arts dance artists will perform on the Outdoor Henry J. Leir Stage.
  • Festival Week 3 continues summer-long celebration of groundbreaking women in dance in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Pillow Pride Weekend returns July 11–12 with LGBTQIA+ friendly events and performances on campus.
  • The week will also offer community workshops and classes, a free PillowTalk, livestreams, and the annual FUTURE FIGURES Symposium focused on the intersection of dance and technology.

Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center (Great Barrington) offers another exciting week featuring comedy, blues, and classic rock.

  • July 11 | 6 p.m. & 8:30 p.m. – Indigo Comedy Night with Cathy Ladman: I Have No One To Blame But Myself
  • July 12 | 8 p.m. - Tab Benoit Join us for an exhilarating evening as the legendary multi-Grammy nominee and wetlands activist Tab Benoit brings his high-energy Soul of the Swamp Tour 2026 to stages across America.
  • July 16 | 8 p.m. – John Waite will perform his catalogue of hits from his 40-year career as both a solo artist and member of iconic rock bands The Babys and Bad English.

Rebel Town a New Musical (July 10-19 at Monument Mountain Regional High School in Gt. Barrington)

As part of Stockbridge's America250 celebration, the Town of Stockbridge presents Rebel Town, a new American musical. Set in pre-Revolutionary Boston, the production follows ordinary citizens whose courage helped shape history leading up to the Boston Tea Party and Paul Revere's famous ride. Filled with heart, humor, and 27 original songs, Rebel Town celebrates the people behind the Revolution.

Special for Stockbridge residents: A free performance will be offered July 15 at 11 a.m.

Don't forget to pick up a Stockbridge 250 Passport at participating organizations. Attend featured America250 events throughout the year and become eligible for a drawing featuring several grand prizes.

Shakespeare & Company (Lenox) Fireflies continues running through July 19, a touching story of romance and second chances. Meanwhile, Twelfth Night – by William Shakespeare runs through July 26 | Directed by Kate Kohler Amory. Shipwrecks, mistaken identities, and romantic chaos unfold in this lively comedy filled with music, disguise, and joyful confusion. Set in a breathtaking outdoor amphitheatre, this production invites audiences to experience Shakespeare under the open sky in one of the nation’s top outdoor theater venues.

Tanglewood Music Festival

Summer continues at Tanglewood with another outstanding week of performances by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, internationally acclaimed soloists, chamber ensembles, and popular artists.

  • July 10 | 8 p.m. – Tchaikovsky Piano concerto No.1 with Seona-Jin Cho and Excerpts from Swan Lake featuring dancers of Boston Ballet (Koussevitzky Music Shed)
  • July 11 | 8 p.m. – Mahler Symphony No. 4 and Mozart Piano Concerto No. 25 with Emanuel Ax (Koussevitzky Music Shed)

Stockbridge Library Museum & Archives

July 9–12 – Annual Used Book Sale With over 12,000 gently used and cleaned books spanning 37 categories for easy browsing, you're bound to discover some hidden gems that will make your bookshelf sing. Admission to the sale is absolutely FREE! If you want to get a head start, come on Thursday, July 9, from 12 to 5 pm ($10 "early bird" fee all day).

Berkshire Botanical Garden

A celebration of nature and community continues throughout the week.

Fête des Fleurs: Garden Disco (July 11)
The funds raised at this year’s celebration support everything they do at Berkshire Botanical Garden — from caring for 24 acres of gardens and natural spaces to welcoming thousands of visitors and offering educational programs for our community. If you’re unable to attend, we hope you’ll consider making a gift to support the Garden and help it continue to grow and inspire.

  • July 11 | 2 p.m. Lecture, "Marian Coffin-Pioneering Landscape Architect" with Erin Fogarty, Horticulturalist and Curator at Connecticut College Arboretum. She will talk about the remarkable life of Coffin, one of 4 women trained at MIT, class of 1904, who overcame all odds to become one of the first American women to work as a professional landscape architect and use marketing. Reception to follow.

Chesterwood Experience the legacy of Daniel Chester French, one of America's most celebrated sculptors.

  • July 10 | 5:30 p.m. – Arts Alive: Reson8 Vocal Octet presents Hero Songs Chamber music ensemble from Pittsburgh's Resonance Works presents the song cycle Hero Songs by Petter Hilliard and Matt Boresi — a meditation on heroism and service, contemplating the past, present, and future of fortitude, effort, and sacrifice. Wine reception to follow.
  • July 12 | 3 p.m. - Free Ice Cream Social In partnership with High Lawn Farm, this tradition features story time with children's book authors and lawn games. Free ice cream for all attendees and free Chesterwood Minute Man tricorn hats for kids!
  • July 15 | 5:30 p.m. – Arts Alive: We (too) the People: Voices from New England Poetry Club.

Chesterwood also offers Art Classes with Berkshire Art Center and Children's Programs. Visitors can also experience The Minute Man: Examining Patriotism, Victory and Loss and In the Open: New England Sculptors Reclaim the Landscape, both on view through October 31.

Clark Art Institute (Williamstown)

The Clark offers a mix of exhibitions, nature programming, and live music in its outdoor spaces. On Sunday, July 12, the Clark Art Institute opens its doors for Community Day: Eye on Art!, an annual day of fun for all ages. Visitors enjoy free museum admission all day (10 am–5 pm), and from 11 am to 4 pm, the Institute offers hands-on activities, live performances, special food vendors, and more—all inspired by the Clark's summer exhibitions, including An Exquisite Eye: Introducing the Aso O. Tavitian Collection, Giorgio Griffa: Paths in the Forest, and CoastLines: American Prints and Drawings.

The Mount (Lenox) Designed and built in 1902 by Pulitzer Prize–winning author Edith Wharton, The Mount is a historic house museum, cultural center, and public park set in the heart of Lenox.

  • July 12 | 5 p.m. Walking with WordXWord poets create new works inspired by selected pieces from Sculpture at The Mount. Walking with WordXWord is a roving poetry reading that invites audiences to "see" The Mount's woods, meadows, and grounds – and the art within it – anew.

  • Author Talks July 15| 5:30 p.m. Enslavement and Freedom: Elizabeth Freeman and the American Revolution Join us for a discussion moderated by Marcus P. Smith, History and Interpretive Fellow of the W.E.B. Du Bois Freedom Center, bringing together scholars, historians, and practitioners to interpret Freeman’s life and legacy, examine the growing movement to honor her memory, and ask what her courage demands of our understanding of liberty and equality in the present.
  • In Conversation with Andre Bernard July 16 | 5 p.m., Jodi Kantor, Pulitzer Prize-Wining Journalist and Author
  • Forest Bathing, Make-and-Take Arts- and Crafts, Qigong with Jamie Greene, and Le Cafe Francis continue throughout the week.

Norman Rockwell Museum offers an inspiring journey into the world of American illustration through the beloved works of Norman Rockwell. 

  • July 11 | 10 a.m. & 3 p.m. Take a guided walking tour of downtown Stockbridge and discover how the town and its inhabitants both inspired Norman Rockwell and appeared in some of his most iconic works of art. Explore the history of this 1734 village–including its Mohican origins.
  • July 11 | 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Celebrates summer with Summer Saturdays at NRM, artmaking activities for all ages inspired by the American Stories: Revolution to Rockwell exhibition.
  • July 16 | 5:30 p.m. Ron Ramsay’s Berkshire Music Salon Series at NRM Planned in conjunction with Norman Rockwell Museum’s American Stories: Revolution to Rockwell, this three-part musical salon series will explore how artists and songwriters have shaped the American imagination over the last 250 years. Each thematic salon blends storytelling, history and a wide range of musical genres including patriotic songs, jazz standards, pop classics, and Broadway favorites.

Ventfort Hall Mansion & Gilded Age Museum (Lenox) Step into the elegance of the Gilded Age at this striking Jacobean Revival mansion in Lenox. Built in 1893 for Sarah Morgan, sister of financier J. P. Morgan and designed by the renowned firm Rotch & Tilden, Ventfort Hall offers a fascinating glimpse into turn-of-the-century life.

  • July 11 | 12:30 p.m. - Light Afternoon Tea Join us for a summer afternoon tea service at Ventfort Hall, featuring a light tea offering that offers a sampling of items that can be found at our formal afternoon teas. Enjoy a delectable tea sandwich and a variety of special sweets in the comfort of our Dining Room, or take your treats to the outdoor veranda. Before or after tea, enjoy general admission to the museum with separately purchased ticket.
  • July 11 | 7 p.m. – Paranormal Investigation with David Raby

  • July 14 | 4 p.m. – Tea & Talk: Gardens of the Gilded Age Step back into America’s golden era with acclaimed author, garden designer, and speaker Jana Milbocker as she presents her newest book, Gardens of the Gilded Age. A tea will be served after her presentation.
