To a God Unknown

Kula elderberry wild ale from Wildair Beerworks.

The people behind Wildair Beerworks have sponsored the last few0 cocktail parties with some of their amazing beers. They now have brewed a beer with elderberries harvested at our Farm.

The elderberries were used to condition the beer for 3 months! The barrels this beer were aged in are from Asbury Park Distilling Co. It is a mixed fermentation, meaning they used some traditional saison yeast along with a variety of wild bacteria that imparts some of the tartness and farmhouse notes in the beer.

Available now on tap and in bottle at 801 2nd Ave., Asbury Park which is just a quick walk from Interfaith Neighbors' main office at 810 4th. Ave, just saying.

The name of the beer comes from a classic John Steinbeck novel about farming and faith.

We tried it and it's really good!

November Highlights

Ashley McFarland gave another fun and informative Nature Printmaking workshop. Check out her online store to find the perfect holiday gift!

Meredith Avakian did a great job on the poetry class for Project Write Now.

Our Annual Pumpkin Smash organized by Kim Obie and the Unwaste Movement was a lot of fun. We composted 900lb of pumpkins! Extra special this year were the pumpkin bites provided by Mark Felz from Trixies Chicken, Matt Collins from Chef Collins Events and Sergio Campos from S.C. Specialties (pictured below).

Mark, Matt and Sergio, thank you!

Another successful Firecider workshop! Many thanks to Leslie Feingold from Wildcraft for once again hosting this class.

Asbury Park's Blue Dot Community has been visiting the Farm weekly to volunteer. They are doing great work in promoting physical, cognitive, & social health for adults with & without neuro & developmental disabilities.

We've been enjoying weekly visits from Asbury's 9th grade College Achieve Charter School students to the Kula Classroom. They get to learn about hydroponics, plant biology, nutrition and the environment.

Many thanks to Kaitlyn Desider for teaching the Homeschool Class this month, all about Pumpkins. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed a full and diverse class time from carving to eating this culinary star of the season.

The Kula Kids did some fun science experiments at the Farm. They made pure carbon dioxide, captured it in a balloon and then 'fed' to the plants. They witnessed some exciting science demonstrations and listened to a nice story about counting apples. They also got to taste different kinds of fruit and voted on which one was their favorite and composted the peels in our vermiculture (worm) farm.

We had a wonderful time hosting The Phoenix's annual Friendsgiving at the Farm. Many thanks to Kim Bradle for organizing a volunteer group this fall and organizing this event. The Phoenix is an active recovery community.

Local residents Charles and Oron recently started as a trainees in our Kula Farm Experience job training program. Here they are planting up one of our hydroponic ZipGrow towers.
