Covid-19 precautions

Some of our events in January were cancelled or postponed due to the Omicron surge, bummer! We appreciate that local schools and establishments remained open and we didn't want to jeopardize that by mixing kids & youth from different school districts on the weekends. Classes and workshops that did not mix different districts and didn't involve food did continue with masks (local mandate).
Recent News
New on the Team: Matt Daniels
We put our volunteer activities on hold for a bit but we did hire a former volunteer within our short term job program; The Kula Farm Experience. Matt has been helping us with our winter downtime maintenance jobs around the farm, like repairing fences, cutting up downed branches and expanding our hydroponic system. Matt is an Asbury Park resident and is running for Mayor for 2022.

Starting 2022 with a blast
After Siarra's yoga and meditation class in early January she had everyone put all anger, frustration or bad habits from 2021 into a balloon and made it pop away. A nice way to start the new year off fresh!
Enjoy one of our workshops digitally, if we get enough likes we'll do it again. Here's Ray Pogwist talking about his passion: Beekeeping!
MacroBites now open Monday through Saturday.
Our neighbors at the Kula Café site are now operating as a full-service, sit down restaurant.
They’re open from 8:30am - 6:00pm Monday - Saturday.
They also provide Take out and Delivery.

They never disappoint and the new menu looks amazing!

School is over, time to get your hands dirty. Kula After School is an afterschool program that provides local teenagers with a fun STEM-based educational experience in a positive and inspirational setting.

The program is lead by Mrs. Natalie, who is a science teacher at Asbury Park High School, and is currently seeking a Master’s Degree in plant Biology at Rutgers University. Natalie is a gardener herself, and takes a strong interest in small space growing, herbal plant care, and heirloom gardening.

This workshop will demonstrate the what, where and when of your organic vegetable spring garden planting.

You will learn which plants to get growing, how to start them, when to plant, different techniques of planting and how to make sure plants flourish throughout the growing season, all without the use of synthetic chemicals.

If you are new to growing, this workshop will be a helpful kickstart to your new garden. If you have been gardening forever, this workshop just may give you those helpful hints you crave each year!

You will go home with a six pack of your choice of seeded plants, additional seed varieties are available in our online store.

Aromatherapy Workshop
Saturday, March 5
10:30am - 12.00pm
Let's Talk and Make Scents!

In this workshop we will discuss essential oils and make products for personal health and home cleaning using these oils.

Meditation Class
Saturday, March 5
12.30 - 1.30pm
We will engage in a short yoga practice before we lead into deep meditation, journaling and a chance to connect with beautiful spirited people, who are also on their journey to self healing. Siarra Morris will share tips you can use in your daily practice of self care and kick start your journey to self healing.
Siarra has always been on the personal journey to healing and has always been into helping and healing others as well.
Her passion for helping others and healing herself birthed Yogi Vibezz. She realized that through connecting mind, body and spirit through meditation and flow of movement, you can enhance your overall daily life with simple routines.
Kula's Annual Seed Swap
and Garden Supply Drive.
Saturday, March 12
1:00 - 3:00pm
We'll be outside (in tents if necessary).
All are welcome this year to join us in exchanging seed and any gardening supplies in your shed or garage. Many experienced gardeners will be at the event to talk shop with and share ideas about what they are planning for the coming season.

You do not have to have seeds to participate. If you do have seeds, please bring them, if not, come anyway! The Kula Farm has many seeds to offer from its own library and we will provide small envelopes for people to portion out their seeds to take home.

In addition, this year we are asking people to bring old tools and garden related materials that they no longer use for us to distribute to the local community. It is a great opportunity to do a little spring cleaning and thin out some old and unused supplies to share and give away to those that can use them.

We look forward to another lively event where we come together to talk gardening and share in all the potential energy that the seed holds.
Kula For Kids
Age 4 - 8
Saturday, March 19
10:30am - 12pm

(This class was postponed from Jan. 22nd)
Come join us as we learn a bit more about the harmful effects of plastic and why we should “skip the straw” and go plastic free!

We will make a take home craft!

A class taught by Miss Michelle Morey:

Skip the straw and save a turtle! Keeping one single straw from making it to the ocean won’t fix the problem, but imagine if everyone said “No straw, please!" Beginning on November 4, 2021, food service businesses shall only provide a single-use plastic straw to a customer upon request.

Composting Workshop
Saturday, March 19
1pm - 2:30pm
This workshop will explain how you can use free or low cost resources to supply your garden’s soil with more nutrition, beneficial microbiology, and improve its water holding capacity. You’ll learn how to build and maintain a compost pile the right way to reap the many benefits of composting!

Age 8 - 12
Saturday, March 26
10:30am - 12pm
This day, Kula for Kids will take a look at energy, how it is made and where it comes from.

A class by Miss Kelly Stone:
We will dive into different types of energy and decide which types are less harmful to the environment. We will learn about an island that harnessed the wind to change their world through Allan Drummonds book Energy Island. The Kula Kids will then use what they learned to create their own wind powered vehicle from a variety of recycled materials.
