Flower Pounding Workshop - June 24, 10:30am

Flower pounding is the art of transferring the natural pigment of flowers and plants onto cloth or paper through the act of physically hammering the two mediums together.

Fabric can be placed inside picture frames for unique art pieces and make wonderful homemade gifts. Pounding into watercolor paper can be folded for cards or cut into strips to make bookmarks. Curious on how to take beautiful flowers from your yard or garden and turn them into beautiful patterns on fabric? This is a craft that anyone can do and fun for kids, just be sure that nobody smashes their fingers!

May Highlights

Kula's Lori Garton addresses our neighbors at the Asbury Park Senior Center about indoor gardening.

Many thanks to RAY POGWIST for bringing his observation hive and honey for THE SISTERS ACADEMY to sample. What a great class!

We had a lot of fun at the Kula Cocktail Party. Quincy Mumford really got the crowd going and Haute Feast did an excellent job serving delicious bites and cocktails!

Our vermiculture bin / worm farm got a custom paint job by Emy Paints. Swing by this Friday to come check out the end result during our weekly plant sale.

Lots of homeschoolers visited to learn about gardening and the environment and they found a snake at the Farm!

Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts visited the Farm for a tour and lesson about growing plants.

We had a lovely garden tea party where mother and daughters got to bond and heal.

We made pinch pots, did some coloring and read a story about growing plants with Ms. Joi and the Kula Kids.

GARDEN UPDATE

The Spring Garden is emerging. Perennial herbs and flowers begin their growth as we weed and amend the beds for seeding spring crops. Lettuce, Arugula, Mustard Greens, Collards, Kale, Broccoli, Peas, Carrots, Radish, Daikon, Salad Turnips, Spinach and specialty greens are all in the ground with plenty of time to seed them again (staggered planting).

Dividing out the self-seeding herbs and flowers is a constant process. Stop by on FRIDAYS between 10am-4pm to browse our plant selection! We will also have vegetables started from seed in our greenhouse to offer for your garden. We charge on a sliding scale for those who cannot afford to pay. We also offer SEEDS that we have in bulk that do well if directly seeded in the ground. If you are new to gardening, we invite you to stop by and chat with us!
