Kula Volunteer Day

Saturday May 4th!

11.00 - 2:00pm

Meet us at the Farm Without Borders!

1200 Springwood Ave, Asbury Park

We will be working on the flower field on Ave A (next to the Farm without borders where you can park). Expect to get down with the weeds as we prepare the space for seeding Zinnias, Sunflowers, Cosmos, Celosia and more!

We will provide tools and gloves. Please dress appropriately and bring water.

Help us pick up trash around the neighborhood from 1-2pm.

April Highlights

Amongst many others, our friends and gardeners Alan and Dorothy stopped by for plants. We hope to see you too sometime! We love sharing our seedlings with the community. Pay what/if you can.

It's best to come by on Fridays between 11am-4pm.

Asbury Park Sober Socials organized a nice gathering at Kula. There was a sacred sobriety circle as well as yoga and music along with vegan bites and mocktails.

Haute Feast created a beautiful menu and ambiance to celebrate their 5th anniversary as a business. We love to have them at the Farm! Think of them for the next time you have an event, they do an amazing job and are so nice to work alongside!

We had a fantastic volunteer day with old friends and quickly made a few new ones. If you are free on a Tuesday between 11-2 we welcome you to stop by to pitch in at the farm. Email Lisa Bagwell with any questions.

Many thanks to Jana Manning for outlining her project: Rewilding the Roadside. She has been working with the DOT to transform the Asbury Circle to eco-pollinator native habitat. We are all better off for her initiative and hope it is imitated elsewhere.

Project Write Now hosted another authentic and engaging poetry circle at the farm where many people share their work for the first time with others. We are pleased to use our space to host such powerful discussions.

Many thanks to Heather Sawyer and the Bradley Beach Environmental Club for visiting the farm. We toured the farm, learned about nature, seeded sunflowers at the Farm Without Borders and made recycled planters.

The Arc of Monmouth and Blue Dot Community helped pack seeds for Asbury Park Library's new Seed Library to open this month! We are so happy to be working with Library Lex on this very special project that offers free seeds to the greater community of Asbury Park. We have been enjoying our time with Arc and Blue Dot every week! They make our Tuesdays and Thursdays brighter.

We are so happy to have Lori back in action and hosting Kula Homeschool! Each class gets to engage in gardening and participate in tasks we need to complete as well as learn about the science behind the work. This month the class transplanted kale, planted potatoes and seeded radish. They also learned about soil (a constant process).

The Kula Classroom enjoyed visits from the new group of College Achieve students. We built birdhouses, dissected flowers and worked on a science experiment.

The Gardening & Hydroponics students from Academy Charter High School in Belmar visited us again. They toured the Farm and all its different hydroponics systems and got a little work done on a beautiful spring day.
