Insect and Spider Walk by Eugene M. Fuzy
We have invited Eugene to walk with us in our garden and greenhouse to find out what resides there. We open this exploration to the public for a fun-filled tour with spider and insect lore told by Eugene. Eugene has been performing insect talks for over 20 years and will appeal to 5-year-olds and experts alike.
Eugene will also identify any photos of New Jersey insects that you bring with you, on your phone or physical.
Eugene has 22 peer-reviewed publications in turfgrass entomology and has a lifetime experience with New Jersey insects, many of which he keeps as pets. Eugene has appeared on the History Channel's Monsterquest: Giant Spiders. Eugene has done numerous newspaper interviews about insects and currently writes a monthly article about insects and spiders. Eugene has also appeared on NBC and ABC primetime news. Eugene is a board member for The Friends for the Abbott Marshlands where he donates his expertise to their programming.

Thanks to all the environmentally conscious people who came out to our annual foraged food event. We appreciate the time and faith it takes to prepare wild foods to share with others. We also thank Adam Padavano, Pablo Galesi and Alice Fawn for providing live music! What a great night. We will do it again in the Spring!

Many thanks to OceanFirst Bank volunteers who came out for the Community First Day where employees participated in a community wide initiative at various nonprofits which included Interfaith Neighbors. And a big thank you to everybody who came out to our volunteer day who weeded, mulched and tidied up the garden.
The fall garden does not disappoint. Cool season greens, roots, herbs, flowers and vines bloom in profusion and hot peppers look magnificent. Birds and pollinators are attracted to aster, zinnia, tulsi, chive blossom, sunflower and various seed heads we leave for the winter. We may have had the last of the figs, but the cycle continues with planting garlic and saving seeds for next year. We do not put the garden to bed in the fall nor do we wake it up in the spring; instead we keep our finger on its pulse and await our cues to plant, amend, and tend to its needs.
Pictured above is our cozy plant sale nook and our weekly donations to Bethel AME food pantry. Stop by FRIDAYS between 11-4 for our FRIDAY PLANT SALE and start building up your indoor plant display for the winter or buy a green gift for a friend.
