IN THIS ISSUE:

  1. Thank you for honoring Day of Remembrance
  2. Call for Entries opens March 1
  3. Talk back — Help plan Season #22
  4. Volunteer!
  5. Bernal notes

1) Thanks to all who attended last week’s special Day of Remembrance screening and Face-to-Face with the Filmmaker

Thank you again to all who attended MURDER IN THE HIGH DESERT and to filmmakers, Emiko Omori and Nancy Ukai. It was an evening of beautifully rendered films and engaged conversation acknowledging Day of Remembrance and learning an honest accounting of the Japanese American experience of those who were incarcerated in concentration camps during WWII. It was terrific to continue the conversation at our favorite Cortland Avenue watering hole after the screening. Let’s do that again! Check out the photos in our Flickr album.

2) Got film? Submission period opens March 1

Got your next submission ready for Season #22? We’ll open our portal at Film Freeway for entries for the traditional end-of-summer outdoor cinema season— on Saturday, March 1. Open to filmmakers and film contributors from PA to publicist and anyone connected to the pre-production, shooting or post-production and distribution. All genres are welcome. Shorts of all lengths up to 20 minutes long. We encourage local filmmakers and especially ♥️ Bernal-based filmmakers and connectors.

3) Help us plan Season #22

Think back to last season. Were you a Film Crawl on Mission attendee? Did you catch one of 6 screenings at the Film Crawl on Cortland? Did you sit out and enjoy the line-up Under the Stars at Precita Park? If you were a filmmaker, volunteer, community partner, or an audience member, please provide some feedback as we solidify plans for 2025. Take the season survey. Click on the survey link and give us your thoughts and observations

4) Live or love Bernal? We need YOU!

We always need folx close to the season dates in September but we welcome volunteers to help with everything from staging our pop-up screenings to contributing to our outdoor pre-season planning. We are specifically looking for a Submissions & Selection Manager who can help manage the entries and filmmakers. Let us know your interest and availability. Email: info@bhoutdoorcine.org

5) Bernal Notes

Join a gathering of Bernal residents, neighbors, and community leaders in the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center’s (BHNC) relaunch of the Community Engagement Committee, being created to share and execute plans for building and organizing community. BHNC invites all to attend the next meeting on Wednesday, March 26, 5:30 to 7:00 pm. and come with ideas and suggestions. RSVP here.

Our friends at the Legacy Film Festival on Aging is extending the Festival an extra week, through Sunday March 2, 2025 to give everyone an opportunity to watch all of this season's films as well as their exclusive pre-recorded Interviews with the filmmakers. It’s not too late to purchase individual tickets ($12) or an all-festival pass ($65) and support our long-time Film Crawl partner.
