A Letter from the Director...
This month the MLNV kicks off the summer reading program, "A Universe of Stories." I must confess I am very excited about this year's theme because as a child, I had aspirations to become an astronaut. I attended Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama when I was in middle school. It was the experience of a life time. My Space Camp team and I were not destined to be astronauts. Our final space simulation was a disaster! We made many errors that sent a moon walk of a fellow camper terribly awry. I believe our camp counselor used the words "freeze dried" to describe the state of our fellow camp astronaut after our mission.
So my dream of becoming an astronaut didn't really work out for me. However, perhaps for the summer I can serve as the MLNV resident Space Librarian. The Library Staff and I would be more than happy to show you some of the new materials we added to the collection that explore space for both children and adults. We can also guide you on a mission to learn more about space through our online electronic resources (which you can access from the comfort of your own home through our website). I think the following electronic resources are out of this world, check them out:
The Science Reference Center,
Gale's General Science Collection, and
World Book.
This summer the MLNV has something for everyone. Family craft night, special story times with Gabe - our visiting library llama, cooking classes and (programming) coding classes for middle school students, teen advisory board meetings, plus presentations and programs for adults including, "Fly Me to the Moon" which will journey participants through space exploration, a night out for parents (drop your kids off at the library and enjoy a quite dinner) and various book discussions for all ages. Check out our new website for a complete listing of summer events at:
https://www.nazarethlibrary.org/events/.
Children who complete the summer reading program will be entered into a drawing to win grand prizes. These prizes include: a $100 gift card to Knobels, a $100 gift card to the Crayola Experience, and family passes to Becky's Drive-In. In addition, there will be weekly drawings for children, teens, and adults from some of your favorite local businesses.
Buckle up for a galactic journey at the MLNV and don't forget to register to participate in the MLNV Summer Reading Program, no matter your age.
