The new year is a time of hope and rejuvenation, and a time to take stock. We’ll have many opportunities to do that as we go forward, but today, I want to take a different tack. Our staff at the Peabody Institute are a dedicated and impressive group of professionals. We often celebrate our faculty and students, and our staff often are heroes in the background, making things happen for our faculty, helping make our students’ lives better, and so much more. Earlier this month, I sadly had to inform the Peabody community of the passing of a dear colleague and friend, Rebecca Polgar, who passed away very unexpectedly over the holiday break. Rebecca was an alumna of Peabody (
GPD ’95, MM ’97, Trumpet) and a member of the Peabody staff since 1997, serving as director of financial aid since 2010. Her warm and cheerful nature will be dearly missed by us all, most especially our students who she always tirelessly tried to help. I know I speak for all of us when we send our condolences to family and friends of Rebecca, and I know we’ll continue to think about her goodness and good works as we go about our lives in the weeks and months ahead.
