Where: Online
Presented By: Richard Schoen and Alan Seiden

Until this year there was no easy way to develop and deploy PHP web applications natively on IBM i without installing Zend Server. In early 2020, IBM in conjunction with Zend released a new set of FREE Community supported RPM based installers for PHP. The new RPM installers allow PHP to be installed and ready for development within an hour or less. Even though the new RPM versions are available you will need to review your existing application code and usage of DB2 data to make sure your applications will run efficiently under the new IBM i PHP environment. These Community versions of PHP open up a whole new world of support options for PHP on IBM i. Join Richard Schoen and Alan Seiden as they give you a tour of the new Community IBM i PHP environment and help you decide if you’re ready to expand your PHP horizons. You won’t want to miss this inspiring PHP technical session.

Rapidly Create Responsive Web Applications

When: May 14, 2020 at 3:30 Eastern

 Attend this session to learn:
  1. What responsive design is
  2. How Bootstrap makes it easier to create responsive web applications
  3. The benefits of using a single code base for web and mobile applications
  4. How you can use Bootstrap with PHP, RPG and Node.js

Pass the Flask and Quickly Pour IBM i Python Web Apps and Services

When: April 30, 2020 at 3:30 Eastern
Where: Online
Presented By: Richard Schoen

If you’ve been itching to see what all the fuss is about, but haven’t had time to open the Flask, attend this session by Richard Schoen to learn how to jump start your web development with the Flask web framework. Python has been available for the past several years on IBM i as part of the open source packages for IBM i. Created back in 1989, about the time the AS/400 appeared, the Python language has gone on to become one of the more popular open source development languages for speedy app creation on all platforms including IBM i, Windows, Linux and Mac servers. As a Python based web development framework Flask is flexible and easy to get started with for beginning web developers and existing IBM i developers alike. You can go from installation to a “Hello IBM i” app in 7 lines of code. In this session we will cover everything from installation and getting started to best practices. We will also review and provide the source to a sample Flask application you can install and start using right away on your IBM i to get more familiar with Flask and identify some use cases in your own shop. You won’t want to miss this inspiring Flask technical session to see how the IBM i has been bitten by Python and Flask can be the elixir that cures all that ails you.
