Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program Worksite Application and Summer Work and Learning RFP

MSYEP employee working with DPW

The time has come to start to plan for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP)! MSYEP offers Cambridge teens (starting at age 14 through the summer after they finish high school) the opportunity to work with non-profits or government agencies for six weeks during the summer. Teens work 20 hours per week from July 7-August 15. There are two ways of providing opportunities for youth to work with your organization:

Traditional Worksites, where MSYEP provides all youth wages and an MSYEP Liaison who will monitor youths’ experience and provide support to the teens and to you. If you would like to host one or more young people at your workplace as a traditional worksite, please complete only the MSYEP Worksite Application.

Summer Work and Learning sites expand the scope of MSYEP by including an educational enrichment component. SWL programs are an opportunity for you to design and manage an educational, work-based learning project specific to your organization’s mission and needs. Funds are available to cover personnel costs related to the program and supplies. As with traditional worksites, MSYEP pays the wages for all teens assigned and provides the support of an MSYEP Liaison. If you’d like to apply as an SWL site, please complete the MSYEP Worksite Application AND the RFP proposal form.

Both forms are due on Monday, March 24, 2024. Applicants will be notified by email about their acceptance status.

Network Spotlight

I had the pleasure of visiting the Cambridge Community Center during this past February break, and I was truly impressed by the warm welcome and the kindness shown by everyone. My conversations with Latifah, Rachel, and Norma covered a wide range of topics, from age and hair to youth programming and who our kids resemble more—“mom or dad.”

During my visit, I also had the opportunity to connect with the staff, and it was clear how deeply they care about the emotions and well-being of the young people they serve. A special shoutout to Chad and Deshaun for fostering growth and transformation in the youth!

The Cambridge Community Center operates a weekly pantry, open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Every Tuesday, they distribute diapers and toiletries to families in need, along with food and produce. On the other days, they provide food, sanitary products for women, and cleaning supplies. This service is made possible through partnerships with local supermarkets and generous community donations. The pantry was born during the pandemic as a way to support families in need, particularly in response to food insecurity. As you can imagine, the demand has been overwhelming.
