Important INFO For Ticonderoga Area Businesses, Organizations & Residents
Emergency Repair Outage Scheduled for Ticonderoga Region on Saturday as Part of Major Transmission Upgrade Project
National Grid has scheduled an emergency power outage for the Ticonderoga region Saturday, Dec. 9, from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. so that crews can complete repairs as part of the company’s reliability work in the area. Customers and local officials will receive direct communications from National Grid notifying them of the outage, which is expected to affect about 10,000 customers in Essex, Warren and Washington counties.
Due to the near-term need for the repair, National Grid worked with local municipalities to determine a date and time for the work. In addition, local municipalities will host warming stations for customers during the outage.
“We understand the inconvenience of an outage of this length at this time of year,” said Matt Barnett, National Grid Vice President of Electric Operations. “The need for this repair came to light during the extensive reliability work we are completing on this transmission line. We are grateful to our customer and local officials who have provided feedback for consideration when determining when our crews can safely complete this work.”
Warming stations will be available at the following locations on Saturday from noon until the outage has ended:
- Crown Point Town Hall, 17 Monitor Bay Rd. #1, Crown Point, NY
- Hague Fire Department, 4 W. Hague Rd., Hague, NY
- Mineville-Witherbee Volunteer Fire Department, 112 Raymond Wright Ave., Mineville, NY
- Moriah Town Hall, 38 Park Pl STE 1, Port Henry, NY
- Moriah Volunteer Fire Department, 360 Tarbell Hill Rd., Moriah, NY
- Ticonderoga Community Building, 132 Montcalm St., Ticonderoga, NY
- Westport Town Hall, 22 Champlain Ave., Westport, NY
The transmission line runs about 40 miles across rough terrain and serves communities including Chilson, Clemons, Crown Point, Dresden, Hague, Huletts Landing, Mineville, Moriah, Putnam Station, Silver Bay, Ticonderoga and Westport. Over the last two years, National Grid has replaced more than 200 transmission structures and more than two miles of conductor along this line to improve service to customers in the region.
“This upgrade work will increase resiliency and reliability,” Barnett said. “The work requires many skilled line and construction workers who are committed to the safe, reliable delivery of energy to our Ticonderoga area customers.
TACC and local municipalities have been communicating with National Grid on our suggestions for the best day of the week/time for this emergency power outage, to avoid as many conflicts as possible in regards to events, business hours of operations, etc. However, due to safety concerns and the current upcoming weather forecast the required repairs will take place on Saturday, December 9th, 2023. TACC Members, local businesses, and organizations can contact Team TACC for more information. Thank you!
