Road Construction & Public Projects Update

Mill Street Road Closures June to September

Hennepin County, in coordination with the cities of Excelsior, Shorewood and Chanhassen, is leading a project to construct a mile-long, multi-use pathway along the east side of Mill Street (County Road 82) in Excelsior, Shorewood, and Chanhassen.

The new path will travel from 2nd Street/Morse Avenue over Highway 7 and connect to the existing Chanhassen pathway at Holly Lane. A green boulevard will be constructed to separate the path from the road, and create a safer way for people to walk, bike or roll along Mill Street.

Mill Street is currently closed to through traffic from 2nd Street/Morse Avenue to Holly Lane.

June 11 through September:

  • Southbound Mill Street will be closed to all traffic from 2nd Street/Morse Avenue to Holly Lane.
  • Northbound Mill Street will be closed to through traffic, but open to local traffic only.

The existing sidewalk on Mill Street from 3rd Avenue to Morse Avenue/2nd Street will be closed.

If you drive, plan an alternative route, or follow the posted detour using 2nd Street, Water Street, Oak Street, Highway 7, County Road 101/Chanhassen Road, and Highway 5.

Watermain Flushing Underway

Watermain flushing is currently taking place weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. over the next 3-4 weeks to remove mineral buildup and maintain hydrants. You may see water flowing from hydrants and should use caution around crews.

During flushing:

  • Temporary water discoloration may occur.
  • Avoid washing whites if flushing is happening nearby.
  • Clear your water by running cold water until it runs clear; full system settling may take a day or two.

Deephaven Street Improvement Project

Phase 4 of the City of Deephaven's Street Improvement Project is scheduled to begin in August, and extend to the end of September.

The western portion of Minnetonka Boulevard (west of Cottagewood Road) in this area will include a full depth reclamation rebuilding of the roadways. This means the existing pavement is ground up and reused to create a stronger road base. Any extra material is removed, and a new asphalt surface is placed.

The eastern portion of Minnetonka Boulevard will be improved using a mill and overlay process. This involves removing the existing asphalt surface and placing a new asphalt surface. Storm sewer within the roadway will be replaced where needed to improve drainage. After construction is complete, new pavement striping will be installed. Driveway and yard impacts will be minimized, and all disturbed areas will be restored after construction.

Residents are asked to avoid driving through active construction areas whenever possible. A drivable street surface will be maintained most of the time. Short‑term closures may occur during storm sewer installation and roadway reconstruction. For updates, visit Deephaven's Street Improvement Project web page.
