Dear Upper School Families,

Tomorrow evening (Thursday, October 1st), we will host our virtual Upper School Back-to-School Night. While we wish we could do this in person, we hope you will still log on to meet your children’s teachers to get a sense of what the students are learning and studying. Here’s what you need to know in order to navigate the evening:

  • At 6:45 p.m., there’s a time carved out just for ninth grade advisors to meet parents/guardians.

  • At 7:00 p.m., academic class meetings will begin with Block 1. Each class meets for 10 minutes with a 5-minute passing time between classes.
  • Schedule? Your children have filled out Google forms with their class schedules and should have emailed you a copy. If you have not received it yet, please ask them about it. It will list their classes starting at Block 1 and ending at Block 8. If they don’t have a class during a given block, it should say “free” instead of the class name.

  • Below is an example of what it looks like. You’ll see the block number and the time of Thursday night’s Zoom meeting in the red bar. Below that, you will see the name of the course (example: World History 1) followed by the name of the teacher (example: Ms. Garita).
  • If your child has two different classes that meet during the same block but on different letter days (example: Block 6AD and Block 6CF), choose one of the classes to visit.

  • NOTE: the following classes will NOT meet -- Art History, Debate, Ethics, Health, Research, Jazz, Independent Studies, Journalism and Study Hall.

  • Know that there are many additional individuals who work with your children and are an important part of the fabric of Upper School: counselors, librarians, college counselors, deans and more. We will be sure to offer other opportunities at grade-level “coffee” Zooms for you to meet them and get to hear from them.

Additionally, with the news that we will have 100% of our students back on campus starting Friday, October 9th, here is the final rotation of Maroon and Gray days for next week:
Should you have any questions about Back-to-School Night or our transition to more students, please feel free to contact the US office via email ( or phone (614-509-2281).

We hope to see many of you tomorrow evening.
