School News
Principal
Good evening, this newsletter finds us in an unexpected and foreign place. Having to shut school down for two weeks is unprecedented territory; therefore, I want to thank you all for the patience and cooperation you have shown as we work through these decisions. Furthermore, I will apologize in advance for the missteps that will be taken as we navigate through this situation. However, I am excited that we do have a plan for continuing instruction and learning during our school closure. We have included as many resources as possible in this newsletter to make this transition as successful as possible. I remain hopeful that all our students, staff, and families will maintain their health throughout this experience. Thank you for all the support you continue to show us.

Respectfully,

Chad Flatt

Chromebook Info
Your child had the opportunity today to receive a Pickens County Schools Chromebook to take home and use during the time that school is closed due to health concerns. These devices were made available to any student 3-8 that indicated a need for a device to use at home. Once normal school days resume, your child should return the device to the teacher who distributed it.

If your student chose not get a device and you would like for them to have one during this time please come by the school on Monday 3/16 or Tuesday 3/17 during normal school hours and we will get you one. Conversely if you student brought one home and you do not think that they need one you may return it to school on Monday 3/16 or Tuesday 3/17 during normal school hours.

Below are the guidelines that each parent must understand and sign off on in order to continue using the device. If you have any questions please call the school.

Free Meals during Closure
The Pickens County School District is pleased to announce that meals will be available for all children in the community age 18 and under.

Although Pickens County School District has a free and reduced lunch rate of approximately 50%, the “Grab and Go” meals are provided FREE of charge to all Pickens County children age 18 and under.

We will be providing meals as specified in the chart below. Meals can be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition to our school locations, meals will be available in the parking lot of IGA in Marble Hill, Hinton Milling, City of Talking Rock (across from City Hall), and Mountainside Manor apartments. There will be a school bus at each of these locations with the meals. As a convenience to families, you may pick-up meals at any location regardless of where you live within the county. Please note, children must be present to collect the meal. We will provide lunch along with a breakfast meal for the following morning.
We look forward to serving our students throughout this two-week period. Great school nutrition fuels the brain for learning! Let us help you keep the learning momentum going by enjoying one of our "Grab and Go" meals. If you have any questions contact Destini Shope at destinishope@pickenscountyschools.org
Field Trip Info
It is with much regret that we announce that we are cancelling the following upcoming field trips

8th Grade Trip to Savannah (April 1 - 3)
7th & 8th Grade Band Trip to Disney (April 6 - 10)
7th Grade Trip to Jekyll Island (April 13 - 15)

We are choosing to make this decision based on the need to secure refunds for families who have committed a substantial amount of money to participate. We are already working with travel agencies to secure these refunds. Field Trip Sponsors will be working over the coming weeks to resolve this issue. Over the next few weeks, the school system hopes to operate normally in regards to travel, but we are fearful if we don't act now on these trips we may jeopardize our ability to secure refunds. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we move forward with this difficult process.

We would like to thank our sponsors who worked diligently to make these trips a success. We are sorry that we have had to make this decision, but
our first priority is and always will be the health and safety of our students, staff, and families. If you have questions please contact us.
