November 18, 2019
I look forward to hosting my Resource Fair and Senior Luncheon on Tuesday, November 26. This annual event is for
District 3 seniors ages 60 or better.
The resource fair--including free health and memory screenings-- takes place from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. No RSVP is required to attend and take advantage of those free resources.
A catered lunch will begin at Noon. Reservations are needed for lunch and we still have just a few seats left. Please contact Wanda Brooks at 301-952-3060 or WJBrooks@co.pg.md.us to reserve a seat today.
I'm incredibly pleased that Kaiser Permanente has partnered with Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization (CKAR) CDC to launch a placed-based initiative strategy to be fully implemented over the next several years for the Greater Riverdale communities. In 2017, a steering committee went through some robust community visioning to produce our
East Riverdale/Beacon Heights Sector Plan. That work, along with shared priorities along the Purple Line Corridor, and objectives toward a healthier community put the Greater Riverdale area in the position to attract Kaiser Permanente as an anchor institution to land its next place-based initiative right here! Indeed, this partnership between Kaiser Permanente and CKAR, with support from my office, is promoting a broader community health vision, which includes creating thriving communities with schools as a hub for health, strengthening our institutions, cohesion and advocacy, economic opportunity through support for small businesses, fostering entrepreneurs, tactical workforce development and effectively addressing affordable housing and financial literacy.
It is anticipated that our partnership with Kaiser Permanente will attract additional capital, private investment, additional resources, technical support and help to build capacity for non-profits that serve Greater Riverdale.
I urge members of the communities within the area of this place-based initiative to attend one of two upcoming Community Visioning Workshops on Wednesday, November 20 or Saturday, November 23.
The communities include: Town of Riverdale Park, Town of Landover Hills, and the unincorporated communities of Riverdale Height
s, Hills, and Crestwood; Templeton Knolls, East Pines, Beacon Heights, Woodlawn, Glenridge, West Lanham Hills, West Lanham Estates, and Hanson Oaks.

10th Semi-Annual Nonprofit Networking Breakfast
It was an honor to host my 10th Semi-Annual Nonprofit Networking Breakfast on Friday, November 1. More than 80 individuals, representing nearly 70 nonprofit organizations serving residents of District 3 attended this milestone event. Back in 2015, I could not have imagined the increased funding, partnerships, and service to our residents that would grow out of that very first event. I look forward to hosting six more in my final three years as your County Council Member. If you are part of a nonprofit organization which serves residents of District 3 and want to be added to our nonprofit list, please reach out to Alesha WIlson, AEWilson@co.pg.md.us or 301-952-3060.
As always, don't hesitate to reach out to me or a member of my staff if we may assist you in any way.
