Capilano's Open Education Showcase

Celebrate Open Education Week by learning more about Open Education, practices, pedagogy, and resources at Capilano’s Open Education Showcase. Browse through Open Educational Resources (OERs) and hear about the benefits and challenges of teaching in the open by faculty who have adopted Open texts. Light refreshments will be available. 
What is Open Education?  

An introduction to the principles of Open Education, and how these fit in with teaching and learning practices in the classroom.
Faculty and Student Panel 

This panel will provide an opportunity to hear from colleagues Hammond Tarry and Ki Wight and students about their first-hand experiences working with Open Educational Resources (OER’s). Expect to hear about successes, common challenges, as well as tips for how to incorporate OER’s into your own teaching.
Creative Commons Licensing Workshop 

Scholarly Communications & Copyright Librarian, Sabrina Wong, will guide faculty through the anatomy of Creative Commons licenses, providing recommendation for finding and reusing CC-licensed images, and offering details on how to apply CC licenses to your own work. 
Introduction to Pressbooks Workshop

Learn how to create, adapt, and publish Open Textbooks with Pressbooks. Pressbooks is an open-source WordPress-based platform for publishing content to a variety of digital formats. You can assemble, remix, and reformat open educational resources shared by others, or author your own content.
Reconnect Reflect Recharge
Our first " Reconnect! Reflect! Recharge ! event took place in early November and was so successful that the CTE is hosting a Spring 2020 Reconnect, Reflect, Recharge meet-up on

Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 11:30 - 12:50 at the CTE .

You will have the opportunity to

  • connect/reconnect with colleagues from other disciplines,
  • reflect on your teaching experiences at Capilano, and
  • recharge after midterms.
Light lunch will be provided

What does it mean that our campuses are located on the ancestral unceded territories of the Lil’wat, Musqueam, Sechelt (shíshálh), Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations?

Your students can electrify their ePortolio in a sprint session. They can get assistance from ePortfolio wizards to add video, image galleries, sound or music clips, and get easy-to-use blocks of code to power up the look of their ePortfolio.
