We don't just have an eviction problem—we have a conflict management problem. Eviction is rarely the result of unpaid rent alone; it is often the outcome of unresolved disputes, miscommunication, and systemic breakdowns. When housing systems respond to conflict only after it reaches the crisis point, opportunities for early intervention and housing stabilization are often missed.
This interactive virtual workshop reframes conflict management as a critical homelessness prevention strategy. Designed for frontline housing prevention staff and supervisors, the workshop recognizes that practitioners are often supporting one party. As a result, conflict management skills are often more practical and immediately applicable.
Through real-world case scenarios, discussion, and practical frameworks, participants will examine the distinction between conflict management and conflict resolution, identify when each approach is appropriate, and develop strategies for de-escalating conflict, improving communication, and supporting housing stability. Participants will leave with practical tools they can use to reduce the immediate risk of eviction, strengthen communication skills, and intervene earlier to prevent displacement.
